Chamber of Commerce
plans tour of Bendix
The Zurich and District
Chamber of Commerce met in
the Dominion Hotel on March 3
with Spence Cummings, the
Development officer for Huron
County, as the guest speaker.
"The Development Depart-
ment," Mr. Cummings said,
"Undertakes to point the way for
meeting the needs of the various
communities in the County." He
also asked that the communities
report their needs to his office so
that they can be directed to
departments and agencies
concerned.
He displayed brochures on
several aspects of Huron County
services and a brochure on the
village of Zurich itself. These can
be placed in stores, hotels, and
other places where they may be
seen and distributed.
The speaker was introduced by
Mr. Fred Haberer -and thanked
by Jack Hamilton.
The Chamber also heard
briefly from Ted Doughty
representing the South West
Travel Association which is a
venture endeavoring to attract
tourism and industry to eight
counties of Southwestern
Ontario.
During business at the dinner
meeting Jack Eckel and Jack
Hamilton were designated to
represent the Zurich District
Chamber at a meeting of the
Stratford Chamber of Commerce
on March 16. Mr. Ron Heimrich
was appointed to sit on the
planning board of the 1978
Ploughing Match.
On April 4 the Chamber plans
to take a tour of the recreational
vehicles plant of Bendix Homes
Systems in Hensall at 8 p.m.
Members were asked to bring
their wives and friend or two for
this tour.
During a question and answer
period, the guest speaker, Mr.
Cummings said there are
frequent requests for information
about docking facilities along
Lake Huron and that there are
plans developing towards a high-
way access to the McDonald -
Cartier Highway from some point
west of Stratford. and possibly
from Huron County.
He also said that efforts are
being made to encourage visitors
to come from New York and Ohio
as well as from Michigan and to
remain for several days at a time
and that there are industries
making enquiries about facilities
in towns the size of Zurich for
possible location.
An industrial book has been
prepared to' hand out to persons
andindustries making such
enquiries.
Theatre brings
people together
"Theatre brings people
together and Huron Country
Playhouse in particular, has
made a positive impact on this
region", said Bill Brady, well-
known radio personality from
CFPL, London, at the Playhouse
Beaux -Art Bali on Saturday.
Approximately 70 couples paid
$25 to attend the gala event at
Ausable Hall in Grand Bend. A
five course meal with Canadian
wines was served in a beautifully
decorated setting.
Master of Ceremonies for the
evening, Bill Brady introduced
The Smile Company, Toronto
performers who volunteered
their services by providing a
witty review of past Playhouse
musical productions.
The fund raising event netted
approximately $750 for the
Playhouse. Many of the area's
businesses donated food or
services to assist the Playhouse.
Len Evans, Chairman of the
Board, was so pleased with.,the
event that he hopes it will become
an annual occasion.
Larry Condon, MP for Mid-
dlesex, was guest of honour.
James Murphy, manager for
the Huron Country Playhouse,
used the occasion to announce the
