Flyers gain only one point
in two outings
The Zurich Flyers gained only
one of a possible four points in
South Huron intermediate hockey
league play this week.
Saturday night on home ice at
the Zurich arena the Flyers
gained a 6-6 tie with Thedford and
Sunday in Parkhill they suffered
Home economist
given 'transfer
Extension home economist
Jane Pengilley will leave Huron
County behind her to step into a
new phase of her career.
After three and a half years in
Huron, Jane has been transferred
to Wellington County, where she
will work out of the Fergus office.
She will continue to carry out
the duties of extension home
economist, which demands that
she spend most of her time
working with 4-H homemaking
courses. Her involvement with 4-
H requires that she plan and
oversee current 4-H projects;
visit the various clubs to follow
up earlier meetings; organize,
Achievement Days.
Huron County was Jane's first
post on graduation from Home
Economics at the University of
Guelph, and she looks upon the
last three and a half years as
having "really been exciting."
I've certainly gained a lot of
experience and the sharing of
ideas with the people I've worked
with is something I'll never
forget," she said.
A native of Brampton, Jane
feels some remorse at having to
pull up her Huron stakes but the
challenge of "new people and
new surroundings" promises an
attractive challenge.

a 9-3 setback at the hands of the
Parkhill Merchants.
In Sunday's contest the Mer-
chants took a 3-0 lead at the end of
the first period and never looked
back. The Flyers were short
handed with only seven players in
the lineup.
The first goal for the Flyers
came from the stick of Randy
McKinnon on a three-way effort
with Ron Desjardine and Rick
Schilbe early in in the second
period.
In the final session, Rick
Schilbe scored on asolo dash and
Pat Bedard converted a pass
from Randy McKinnon.
Against Thedford Saturday, the
Flyers were ahead 6-3 at the end
of two period of play but were
unable to hold the visitors w,ho
scored three times in the final 20
minutes of play to gain the tie.
Novice squad
clip Grand Bend
The Zurich novice hockey team
scored a 2-0 victory over Grand
Bend this week.
Aaron Bullock was the sharp-
shooter on both Zurich goals.
They came in a space of one
minute in the second period.
Steve Consitt provided the assist
on the first goal and Paul Bedard
assisted on the second.
The next action for the novice
youngsters will be Saturday
March 5 at 6 p.m. at the Zurich
arena.
Captain Rick Schilbe led the
Flyers scoring attack with a hat
trick. All goals came on
unassisted efforts. Ron
Desjardine was next in line with a
two goal performance. Picking
up assists were Pat Bedard and
Glen Overholt.
The sixth score for the 'Flyers
came from the stick of Kevin
McKinnon. The pass was
provided by Randy McKinnon.
Local atoms
are ousted
The Zurich atoms were
eliminated from WOAA cham-
pionship playoffs, Wednesday,
when they dropped a 2-0 verdict
to Brussels in their best -of -three
playoff. Brussels had taken the
first game by a 9-2 margin.
' Zurich will now meet Monkton
in a consolation series with the
first game in Zurich on March 2.
In Wednesday s battle with the
powerful Brussels crew, Zurich
held their own throughout most of
the contest and Karmen Bedard
played a strong game in the nets
to keep the home team in con-
tention until the final minutes.
Brussels scored at the 3:57
mark of the first stanza and then
potted the insurance tally at the
7:28 mark of ' the middle frame.
Zurich just couldn't find the
mark on the several good scoring
opportunities they managed in
the contest.
