Recreation committee
chooses new officers
The Stanley Township
Recreation Committee met on
Wednesday, February 25, at the
Township Hall, Varna.
New officers for the year were
elected as follows: chairman,
Don Brodie; vice-chairman,
Arnold Taylor; treasurer,
Howard Armstrong; secretary,
Jean Rathwell; press secretary,
Shirley Hill, Other committee
members are Gerald Hayter,
Mary Erb, Clarence Rau, Harvey
Hayter and John Paul Rau,
Reports were given on the
Family Skating Party held
February 12 and it was con-
sidered a very successful event
this year.
Tickets are on sale now for the
Recreation Dance to be held
March 12 at Hully Gully. If you
wish tickets, call dance chair -
Varna
by Mrs. Bill Chessell
man, Harvey Hayter at 482-3226,
or any committee member. The
tickets are $10.00 per couple with
music by the Music Makers.
The next meeting will be held
March 30, when plans will start
for the baseball season. Please
keep this in mind, as we are
always looking for volunteers to
coach boys' and girls' teams.
Personals
Congratulations to Bob and
Gwynne Roberts on the birth of
their baby girl, Jessica Amy. She
was born on Friday, February 25.
Wilfred Chuter has been en-
joying an exceptionally beautiful
Amaryllis. It has produced five
large blooms on one stalk, and
four on the other and has lots of
healthy leaves, as well.
We'd like to express our
sympathy to Mr. & Mrs. Alex
Murray and Mr. & Mrs. Jim
Murray in the death of Mr.
Pickett, who passed away in
Goderich on Friday.
There was a good tournout for
the Varna Church pancake
supper last week.
Winners at the Orange Lodge
euchre party on Friday evening
were: ladies' high, Mrs. Larry
Fisher; low, Mrs, Frank
McClinchey; men's high, Larry
Fisher; low, Bruce Keys. Draw
winners were Ross Whittaker (2),
Shelley Hayter and John Ostrom.
On"Saturday evening members
of the Orange Lodge and their
wives had a bowling party at
Clinton Crown Lanes, then
returned to to the church
basement for a delicious lunch.

Taylor and Mr, & Mrs, Bob

The Women's World Day of
Prayer for the Varna -Goshen
charge will be held in Varna
Church tomorrow (Friday) at
2:00 p.m.
We are sorry to hear that Rev.
Taylor became ill on Sunday and
had to be admitted to hospital.
We hope he will be well again
very soon.
Maple syrup season is here
again. Some people have started,
others hope to start as soon as
this cold spell is over.
A family gathering was held at
the home of Bill and Joyce
Dowson and family on Sunday to
celebrate the 45th Wedding
Anniversary of Bill's parents,
Harold and Margaret Dowson.

of Sarnia, Mr. & Mrs. Mel
Webster, Rachel Johnston, Mr. &
Mrs. Cecil Dowson, Mr. & Mrs.
