bantams tred in playoff set

In the first game of Western
Ontario Athletic Association "0"
playoffs the Zurich pee wees
dropped a 8-3 decision to Blyth.
The game was close for the
first period with each team
scoring two goals but Blyth
pulled away in the second
session.
The first Zurich goal came
from the stick of David Smith on
a pass from Briars Horner. The
second marker came on a sen-
sational effort with David Smith
firing the shot on a pass from Rob
Grainger.
The third and final Zurich goal
came in the third period. The
marksman was David Erb.

Zurich 2, Garden City 0
Saturday, the Zurich pee wees
faced off for the first game with
Garden City and came away with
a 2-0 victory.
In the first period there was no
scoring. But in the second period
at the three minutes Danny
Becker put the puck past the
Garden City goalie assisted by
Gord Love.
Zurich was still holding the
lead until the third period when
David Erb put the puck in the
empty net at 9:54 unassisted. The
two Zurich goalies Kevin Oke and
Dwayne Martin played a good
game.
Zurich 11, Garden City 3
In the second game Sunday
Zurich went on a rampage to win
11-3.
Zurich opened the scoring by
David Erb at the 10 second mark
assisted by Paul Johnston.
Garden City came back to tie the
game 14 seconds later when Willy
Shelley put the puck by Zurich
goalie Greg O'Brien assisted by
Kevin Ryan. Again Garden City
scored this time by Kevin Ryan
at 1:30 mark assisted by Willy
Shelley.
For the rest of the game Zurich
took over. David Erb again
scored 10 seconds later assisted
by Mark Kirk and Paul Johnston.
Then at four minutes captain
Mark• Kirk blasted one by the
Garden City goalie Dan Prevo
assisted bvy Paul Johnston.
Again in the first period Mark
Kirk scored another one assisted
by David Erb.
With 10 seconds left in the
period David Erb flipped the
puck past the Garden City goalie.
At the start of the second period
David Erb scored his fourth goal
assisted by Mark Kirk at three
minutes.
A minute later Gord Love hit
the mark assisted by John
McAllister. Again in the second
period at 9:04 Brian Horner put
the rubber disc past the Garden
City goalie.
At the six minute mark in the
third period Gord Love scored his
second goal of the afternoon

The Zurich Atoms suffered a 9-
2 defeat at the hands of Brussels
Friday in the first game of a best -
of -three series in the first round
of WOAA "D" playoffs.
After the Zurich youngsters
were able to score one goal in
each of the first two periods, the
Brussels team broke the game
wide open with five unanswered
goals in the third period.
Derek McKinnon notched the
first Zurich score on passes from
Darcy Martin and Doug Schade
and Brian Steckle hit the mark on
passes from Dean Armstrong and
Jeff Laporte.
Oust Grand Bend
The Zurich Atoms defeated
Grand Bend by a score of 8-0 last
week to win that best two out of
three series in two games
straight.
Zurich made no bones about
wanting to win the second game
of the series as they went out
fighting and made it four to
nothing by the end of the first
period.
By scoring twice in the second
period and twice in the third they
racked up another four ,goals to
win eight to nothing.
Zurich's top goal scorer was
Dean Armstrong who scored four

goals and assisted on another.
Derek McKinnon scored twice
for the Zurich team and singles
went to Rick Kuepfer and Jeff
Laporte. Jeff Laporte also
assisted on two other goals with
one assist going to Doug Schade.
The next team the Zurich
Atoms will face will be the
winners of the Blyth, Hensall
series still in progress.
Stop Garden City
The Zurich atoms scored
double victories over their
counterparts from Garden City.
The Zurich youngsters took
Saturday's game by a score of 5-3
and won again Sunday 4-1.
The Zurich club needed a three
goal spurt in the third period to
pull out Saturday's victory.
Dean Armstrong and Rick
Kuepfer each scored two goals to
lead the Zurich scoring attack
and Paul Overholt added the odd
counter'. Assists were picked up
by Cam Steckle, Paul Overholt,
Derek McKinnon and Doug
Schade.
Sunday's contest was a dif-
ferent story with the Zurich
youngsters firing in two goals in
the first 43 seconds of play and
they never looked back.
Jeff Laporte converted a pass
from Mike Bedard to start the
scoring and Dean Armstrong
followed quickly with an
unassisted effort.
In the third period, Armstrong
scored again, this time on passes
from Rick Kuepfer and Jeff
Laporte and Kuepfer hit on a solo
dash.
Novice lose
to Goderich
As part of Saturday's Minor
Hockey Day festivities the Zurich
novice team were on the short
end of a 2-1 score against
Goderich.
The only Zurich marker came
in the second period from the
stick of Mark Johnston on a pass
from Aaron Bullock.
assisted by Mark Kirk. A minute
later David Erb scored and Mark
Kirk assisted.
With 50 seconds left Garden
City popped one in behind Zurich
goalie scored by Russ Masucci.
The game was almost over.
when David Erb popped in his
sixth goal of the afternoon
assisted by Paul Johnston, It was
a good afternocn for Zurich but
not so good for Garden City.
