Even though we are almost at
the end of January, there seems
to be no sign of a thaw in sight.
Transportation is becoming more-
and
ore°•and more difficult for Residents
and Staff of both the Rest Home
and Maplewoods Apartments as
the snow continues to pile up.
Needless to say, activities are
pretty well at a stand still as far
as outside entertainment is
concerned. However, it would be
rather foolish for people to risk
their lives in order to keep an
appointment for a programme
even though the Residents do
miss the activities. They are
living in comfort and I doubt if
they care about much else. ,
We regret that Mr. William
Passmore is a patient in South
Huron Hospital.
The films were shown on
Tuesday evening followed by
refreshments. They were delayed
one evening because of im-
passable roads.
On Thursday afternoon a
number of our Residents at-
tended the Movie "Little Miss
Marker" starring Shirley Temple
shown at the Maplewoods
Apartments. This Thursday,
January 20th at 2 p.m. and 7:30
p.m., "Angel in My Pocket" fin
colour) starring Andy Griffith
will be shown. As always, the
public are invited to come and
enjoy these movies. On January
27th at the above times, there will
be a "Special Feature" from the
National Film Board,
Bingo was played on Friday
evening, followed by refresh-
ments.
The Sunday evening chapel
service was conducted by Rev.
Mellecke of the Dashwood
Lutheran Church. The Junior
Choir was in attendance and sang
two numbers accompanied by the
organist Miss Helen Nediger. Mr.
Howard Datars led in the .singing
of the hymns.
The Severn Park steering
committee in Grand Bend held
their first meeting last week. At
the meeting it was decided to hold
at least one public meeting to get
some consensus of opinion in the
village and surrounding area
concerning recreation facilities
for Severn Park.
Dave Nelder, secretary for the
committee, says they decided to
hold the first public meeting
February 14 at the village hall.
The public will be invited to
present briefs both of support and
opposition to any proposed
facilities in order to give the
committee an idea of just what
the public want or do not want to
see developed.
All of this may be slightly
premature as the papers to of-
ficially turn the park area over
to the village have not yet been
signed.
Mr. Nelder says it is a matter
of Reeve Sharen and a
representative from the Ministry
of Natural Resources sitting
down and signing the documents.
However, they are holding off on
signing until the committee
receives a definite response from
Bosanquet township concerning
their desire to share in the
ownership of the park.
Bosanquet township council
has not made an official response
to the committee's request that
they share in the ownership of the
park. Bosanquet Council was also
asked by the steering committee
to chose a representative to sit
on the steering committee.
However no representative from
Bosanquet Council attended the
steering committees first
planning meeting and no name has
been put forward as their
representative. Five members of
the steering committee are
residents of the township.
Chairman of the steering
committee is Pat Soldan and the
remaining members include Paul
Johnston of the Lions club; Roy
Harris of the recreation com-
mittee; Annie Kadelecik of the
Lioness Club; Tony Relouw of the
Van Dongen subdivision; Bill
Harwood of the Chamber of
Commerce; Bob Sharen of Grand
Bend council and Dave Nelder as
Secretary.
