Hearing on Stanley subdivision postponed,
It could be six months before an
Ontario Municipal Board (OMB)
hearing into a proposed 100 acre
cottage subdivision south of
Bayfield is held. The hearing was
originally planned for January 10
but inclement weather postponed
it until the 13th.
However, chairman P.M.
Brooks ended the hearing early
when the lawyer for Huron
County, D.J. Murphy, pointed out
that Lakeshore Developments
Ltd. of London, the land owners,
had not informed owners of
neighboring farms of the hearing
as required under the Planning
Act.
Huron County planning
Cafeteria a success
Continued from front page
the preparation of the food.
Not only are the students
operating the facility on their
own but they also offer perhaps
better than average cafeteria
rneais. No white bread is used in
the preparation of sandwiches.
No chocolate bars are sold. Both
white and chocolate milk are
made available at reasonable
prices, and according to Mr.
Shaw, are popular items among
the students.
Approximately 200 to 250
students out of 400 remain at
school for lunch, and most pur-
chase some food in the cafeteria.
At Christmas, over 200 students
enjoyed a Christmas dinner
prepared by the cafeteria.
director Gary Davidson ex-
plained the delay in recalling the
hearing is due to the fact the
negligence was on the applicants
rather than on the Board or the
County. In such a case the ap-
plication is put on the bottom of
the pile and will likely take
months to come up again.
Lakeshore Developments has
asked the board to amend the
county's official plan to allow the
100 -lot summer residential area
in a farming zone in Stanley
Township on Concessions 9 and
10, west of Highway 21, about two
miles south of Bayfield.
The County planning board did
not approve of Lakeshore's
proposal, so the developer was
appealing the county decision to
the OMB. It was the developers'
responsibility to inform area
residents about the hearing to
allow objections to be made. The
consultants acting for Lakeshore
had notified cottage owners
within 400 feet of the develop-
ment's boundaries but not the
farmers according to Mr.
Davidson.
The reason the County planning
department is opposing the
development is they are con-
cerned about the removal of good
farm land from agricultural use
according to Mr. Davidson.
