Now that all the holidays have
come and gone, most people are
back into routine for the New
Year. Although most of us think
its about time we have a break in
the winter weather, we seem to
be getting in deeper and deeper.
No doubt many will be in-
terested in knowing who the
winners were in our Christmas
draw. Mrs. Bill McCann of R.R.
3, Dashwood, was the lucky
winner of the quilt and Mrs.
Shirley Pike, London, daughter of
one of our Resident+, Mrs, Myrtle
Woodford, won the steak knives.
During the Christmas season
Mrs, Anne Oligny and Mr. John
Jones were patients in the
hospital. We are pleased they
have been able to return back
home again.
The Sympathy of Residents and
staff is extended to the family of
the late Mr, James Eagleson.
Films were shown on Monday
evening followed by refresh-
ments.
We welcome Mr. Russell
MacGregor of the Parkhill
district as a new Resident.
A new programme is being set
up by the recreation committee
of Maplewoods for the next few
weeks and I will be advising you
of their activities. On Thursday,
January 13th, at 2:00 p.m. and
7:00 p.m. the film "Little Miss
Marker" starring Shirley Temple
will be shown. Weather per-
mitting, we hope you will plan to
attend. The following week,
January 20th, at the above times,
"Angel in My Pocket" starring
Andy Griffith will be shown. This
film will be in colour. Surely one
of these weeks, the storms will
cease and people will be able to
come and go with ease.
At present the Arts and Crafts
of Maplewoods have a beautiful
hand made afghan and tatted
doily on display here at the Home
on which they are selling tickets
for a draw on St. Patrick's Day.
We have tickets available at
either the Tuckshop or office.
This project will be to help them
finance future recreation
programmes.
On Friday evening bingo was
enjoyed, followed by refresh-
ments,
The Sunday evening chapel
service was conducted by Rev.
Andrew Blackwell of St. Peter's
Lutheran Church, Zurich. Mrs.
Fred Haberer presided at the
organ during the service.
Zurich Women's Institute
meet in township hall
The members of the Com-
mittee on Family and Consumer
Affairs were in charge of the
Zurich Women's Institute
meeting held January 3, in the
Hay Township Hall. Mrs. M.
McKinnon acted as chair lady.
She was assisted by Mrs. F.
Moore and Mrs. J. Dietrich.
Piano selections were played
by Edward Neeb and duets were
rendered by Martha and Sylvia
Neeb.
Mrs. McKinnon presented a
well prepared topic on Consumer
and Family Affairs, pointing out
the role advertising ploys in the
consumer's buying. She
emphasized the importance of
careful shopping, by watching
the weights and sizes of different
packages. She stressed buying
Canadian made clothing to
promote our own industries.
During the business meeting
donations were made to Compas-
sion, Meals for Children and to
the War Memorial Children's
Hospital.
Again quilting will be the pro-
ject for the March meeting. This
meeting will be held March 1.
The sensible man is not im-
pressed by what conventional
people do or say.
$30.00 will be the fee for quilting
an average sized quilt.
