Staff photo Buckeyes win, tie to stay on top With the South Huron hockey league approaching its Christmas break, the Zurich Buckeyes continue to be one of the top teams in the local intermediate "C" loop. In a home and home series with Kettle Point, the Buckeyes took three out of four points tying Kettle Point 6-6 Saturday and defeating the Lambton coun- ty squad by a 8-4 margin Sunday in Zurich. Leading the way for the home squad Sunday was Mike Clarke with two goals and Ken Smale with three assists. Zurich took a 1-0 lead at the 12:42 mark of the first period with Gerald Weido scoring from Kim McKinnon and Tim West. Late in the period, the un- dermanned Kettle Point squad came back to even the score. The Buckeyes regained their one goal advantage at the five minute mark as he put one past the Kettle Point netminder, Ron Desjardine assisted. Kettle Point regained some of their composure and came back with two con - secutive goals to take a 3-2 lead. This fired the Buckeyes up as they scored four goals in the second and third periods. At the 14:05 mark, the Buckeyes scored on a goal off of the stick of Rich Schilbe, Smale assisted. Less than two minutes later, Weido took a pass from Pat Bedard and tucked one behind the Kettle Point goalie. The Buckeyes continued their barrage in the third stanza with Bob Farquhar scoring an unassisted goal at the 6:30 mark. Rader picked up his se- cond assist of the afternoon as he fed a pass to Clarke for his first goal of the game. Following a Kettle Point score, the Buckeyes put the game out of reach with the final two goals of the game. Clarke scored his second of the game as he took passes from Smale and Dave Cyr. With only 10 seconds remaining in the game West scored from Smale and Schilbe. In Saturday's game the Buckeyes were extremely lucky to come away with the single point as they were down 6-2 at one point in the game. Kettle Point came out fir- ing in the first period as they put three goals behind Glen Gascho who was in net for the Buckeyes. Zurich narrowed the margin to 3-2 as they scored two goals with a little over a minute remaining in the first period. Defenceman Pete Postill scored the Buckeyes' first goal as he took passes from Weido and Rader. Only 19 seconds later, Weido scored to narrow the gap. McKinnon assisted, In the' second period, Ket- tle Point upped their margin to 6-2 as they scored three more goals, Late in the second, the Buckeyes put themselves back into the game with Schilbe finding the range. Desjardine assisted. With two minutes elapsed in the final period, Glen Overholt scored with an assist from Rader. The Buckeyes got within a goal of- Kettle Point as McKinnon scored his second goal of the game unassisted. The tieing goal came off the stick of Cyr with only a little over two minutes remaining in the game. Schilbe assisted. The game was a placid af- fair with only 11 penalities being called. The Buckeyes are idle un- til next Friday when they take on the Parkhill Merchants in Zurich. Zurich, Parkhill and Goderich have been fighting it out all season long for the top spot in the league. Luncheon a success By MURRAY CRAIG The Christmas Luncheon Supper of the Hi -Hopes was a resounding success. May I thank the kindness of the Ladies who outdid themselves and provided such wonderful delicacies. To Mr. Alfred Denomme for the Organ music which was enjoyed by all.
