Zurich Citizens News, 1978-12-14, Page 6Page 6 Citizens News, December 14, 1978 WI holds Christmas supper meeting The Family and Consumer Affairs group was in charge of the December meeting of Dashwood Women's Institute with Mrs, Gordon Bender convener and Dashwood Mrs. Irvin Rader r • husbands or a friend, special guests. A delicious turkey supper was served by the catering group. Folowing this, the president, Mrs, Eben Weigand, conducted a brief business meeting. "Name your favourite Christmas Carol" was answered by 18 members. There were 16 visitors. Flip charts for all members are to be pur- chased. Mrs. Mervyn Tieman and Mrs. Weigand are to be leaders for the needle point short course. Judith Mellecke 4-H girl, received a gift for getting county honors. A sing song of Christmas carols was enjoyed. Euchre rounded out the evening with the following winners: Mrs. George Tiernan and Eben Weigand, high; Mrs, Howard Datars and Valentine Becker, low; lone hands, Mrs. Letta Taylor and Ray Rader. Mrs. Louella Tiernan waswinner of the lucky plate prize and the- president's prize for a birthday ending in 5. Personals Mr. & Mrs. Terry Sweiger and Mr. & Mrs. Peter Becker have returned home following a two week vacation in Hawaii. The Sweiger's small son, Cameron, stayed with friends in Exeter. Mr. & Mrs. Emil Becker escorted them to and from Toronto. Mr. & Mrs. Edwin Miller spent an enjoyable two weeks in Hawaii. Mr. & Mrs. Oscar Miller Here's hoping your Christmas is merry and bright. Staff photo Buckeyes win In their only game of the week, the Zurich Buckeyes defeated Thedford 6-3 on Sunday with Ken Smale and Rich Schilbe picking up two assists each. Following the Thedford goal in the first period, the Bpckeyes came back with a goal at the 10 second mark of the second period to tie the game up. Scoring for Zurich was defencemen John Graham with an assist from Schilbe. The Buckeyes assumed the lead when Mike Clarke scored at the 10:45 mark of the period. Bob Farquhar assisted. In the third period, the Buckeyes edged Thedford 3-2 in scoring with the Lambton county team tying the game early in the period. The Buckeyes then took a lead which . they didn't relinquish on a goal by Schilbe with help from Graham and Smale. Two minutes laterRon "Dino" Desjardine dapped one in for the hometown squad. Smale and Schilbe assisted. . Following the final Thedford tally of the af- ternoon, Smale scored an unassisted goal with less than four minutes remaining in the game. A total of 19 penalties were called, including a misconduct and game misconduct to Pat Bedard of the Buckeyes.
