That's the best word to describe the Zurich Buckeyes victory in the "A" final of eight team in- termediate hockey tour- nament held over the weekend in Hensall. The Buckeyes took the $400 top prize for their efforts. Zurich fought its way into the top grouping of the tournament which was sponsored by the Hensall Minor Athletic Association by defeating Hensall by a margin of 31-27 in shots on goal, outscoring Monkton 7-4 and in the final game edging Parkhill 4-3. Spokesman for the Athletic Association, Bill Taylor said they were very pleased with the way the tournament turned out with a good chance that the tournament will be held next year. Taking the "B" title was a team from Exeter made up of Pfaff Electric and the Les Pines from the Exeter Rec league. The "A" final turned out to be an all South Huron Hockey League affair bet- ween the Buckeyes and Merchants of the local in- termediate "C" loop. Zurich jumped out to 1-0 lead midway through the first period as Rich Schilbe on an unassisted goal beat RADER IS MVP — Ron Rader of the Zurich Buckeyes was the most valuable player in the "A" championship game between the Buckeyes and the Parkhill Merchants Sunday. Rader received a set of glasses from Labatts for his efforts. Staff photo Tom Steeper in net for Parkhill. The Merchants came back with two goals in the later stages of the first and took a 2-1 lead going into the second stanza. The lead was shot -lived as Ron Desjardine took a pass from Schilbe and beat the Parkhill goaltender with a little over a minutes elapsed in the period. Six minutes later, the Buckeyes pulled in front as Ron Rader scored with help from Weido .and Dave Cyr. In the third period, Weido came back with what proved to be the game winner as he scored with five minutes gone. Pat Bedard and Mike Clarke assisted. The Merchants continued to apply pressure and put one past Randy Oke, in goal for the Buckeyes. Following a penalty to the Merchants with only sec- onds remaining, Parkhill pulled their goaltender in last ditch effort to get the tying goal but it was to no avail. In the Buckeyes first game of the tournament played Saturday morning against Hensall, the game ended in a 6-6 tie but Zurich won the game with their advantage in shots on goal. Leading the way for Zurich was Kim McKinnon with a three goal performance, followed by Schilbe with a pair. Clarke added the single. Scoring for Hensall were Brian Baker with two goals with singles going to Dwight Consitt, Rick Ingram, Bill Chipchase and Larry Bourne. The Buckeyes made it to the "A" final with their 7-4 victory over Monkton. Desjardine lead the way for Zurich with a two goal performance with singles going to Schilbe, Pete Postill, Grant Lee, Glen Overholt and Clarke. Leading the way for Exeter was Jim Guenther with two goals while singles went to Larry Haugh, Ken Bergmen, and Scott Burton. Matt Muller picked up the lone Huron Park goal. Exeter found itself in the "B" division following an opening round loss to the Grand Bend Colonials. Scoring the only Exeter goal of the 4-1 loss was Burton. Grand Bend goals in the game were scored by Pete Gil with two, Paul MaGuire and Larry Laye. Exeter came back with a victory as they defeated Mildmay 8-2 to reach the "B" final. Scoring two goals apiece for Exeter were Bergmen, Haugh and Geunther. Singles went to Burton and Randy Gilfillan.
