United church elects
officers for coming year

charge of the November
meeting of Calvary United
Church Women with the
theme "Remembrance
Day" and Mrs. Greta
Dashwood
Mrs. Irvin Rader
Schade and Mrs. Gerald
Mason taking part in the
worship. Let there be Peace
on Earth was sung.
Mrs. Syd Baker gave a
reading on happenings dur-
ing World Wars' 1 and 2 and
included "In Flanders
_ Fields." She hoped everyone
would stop to remember all
who gave their lives. Mrs.
Ken McCrae and Mrs.
Tieman played a piano duet.
Mrs. Tieman introduced
Rev. and Mrs. George
Anderson of Exeter who had
visited their son and wife
last winter in the Barbados.
Rev. Kenneth Anderson who
as a boy attended public
school in Dashwood when
his parents lived here, is a
professor in a theological
college where 90% of the
students are coloured. Pic-
tures shown brought out the
beauty of the Barbados.
Mrs. Anderson displayed in-
teresting articles she had
brought home.
Mrs. Gordon Bender,
president, dealt with the
business. Twenty members
answered the roll call. A
number of the members had
been guests of the Zurich
ladies at St. Boniface
Catholic church the previous
evening. Donations were
made to the Canadian Bible
Society, Care, War
Memorial hospital, Crippled
children, World Relief. Crib
quilts had been donated to
the Family and Children's
Services and Mrs. Eben
Weigand read a letter of ap-
preciation. The Christmas
dinner will be held on the
regular meeting night with
husbands or a friend guests.

The youth of Zion
Lutheran church held their
Joy meeting November 12
with seminarian student,
Doug Priestap, special
guest. He spoke of his life at
the seminary in St.
Catharines. This 'was follow-.
ed by discussion.. They
decided not to look after the
rink this year. They will be
doing the annual reports.

librarian, says the books
have been changed and there
is a fine selection on hand.

Two killed in
accidents
Two area residents were
killed and three were
seriously injured in violent
collisions this week.
Dead are John Vanderloo,
19, of RR 3 . Lucan, and
Arthur Robert Ball; 70,
Crediton.
Mr. Ball was killed' in a
collision at the intersection
of County Roads 2 and4 west
of Crediton at 2:00 p.m;,
Thursday. He had been
southbound on County Road
2 and was hit broadside by a
westbound car driven by
Mrs. Greta Beaver, also of
Crediton, as he crossed .the
intersection.
Mrs, Beaver and Mr.
Ball's wife, Loretta, were
both seriously injured and
were taken to London
hospitals by Hoffman's
Ambulance after being
treated initially at South
Huron Hospital.
The driver's side of the
Ball vehicle was ripped
apart in the impact and Mr.
Ball waspronounceddead at
the scene by Coroner Dr.
Liam O'Connor, Grand
.Bend.
OPP Constable Jack
Straughan investigated,
assisted by Sgt. Ray Glover
and Constable Jim Rogers.
Damage in the accident was
listed at $12,000.
John Vanderloo was killed
at 1.50 a.m. Saturday when
the vehicle he was driving
was in a near head-on
collision with a vehicle
driven. by 22 year-old Dan
Brintnell of Exeter.
The Vanderloo vehicle was
proceeding south when 'the
accident occured on High-
way 4, 18 kilometers south of
the Lucan village limits.
The Brintnell vehicle was
heading north. The crash
took place in the southbound
lane.
A passenger in the Van-
derloo car, Mary Lenders of
RR 2, Ilderton suffered
minor injuries and was taken
to St. Joseph's Hospital,
London for treatment.
Vanderloo was pronounced
dead at the scene by Coroner
Dr. Robin Shearer of Lon-
don. Constable W. R. Disher
of the . Lucan Ontario
Provincial Police detach-
ment investigated. Both
vehicles were demolished.
Total loss was set at $6,000.
Another area resident,
David Mitton, Crediton, was
seriously injured in a one -
vehicle accident on Satur-
day.. He is a patient in'
University Hospital, London.
Mitton was a passenger in
a vehicle driven by Margaret
Foster, Huron Park, which
struck a sign post and two
trees on County Road 2, west
of concession 4-5 of Stephen.
Exeter OPP Constable
Don Mason investigated and
set property damage at
$4,000 in that collision.

Eric Luther, campaign
chairman for the Canadian
National Institute for the
Blind wishes to advise that
this year's campaign was
highly successful.
This year, the total was
$1,465.25 which is over our
target of $1,400.00.
Luther expressed thanks
to everyone who donated to
this organization to help
make the 1978 canvass a
success.
Luther stated special
thanks should be extended to
the following groups for their
help in the door to door
canvass: Women's
Institute, Amber Rebekah
Lodge, Women's Auxiliary
and Carmel Presbyterian
