Accept resignation

Education for Huron -Perth
County Roman Catholic
Separate School Board was
accepted with regret by the
board at a meeting in Dublin
Monday night. It willbe
effective December 31.

position as education officer
with the Ministry of
Education in Toronto,
He was hired by the board
September 1, 1976 as a
superintendent of special
services and since August,
1977, he has been superin-
tendent of education. At that
time he also assumed the
duties of superintendent of
program, combining it with
the special services
workload.
The board will hold a
special meeting November 1
to discuss advertising for a
replacement for Mr, Mills,
The board approved a
revised policy regarding
school secretaries to be
adopted January 1. For-
merly the policy for
remuneration for the
secretaries was based on the
number of rooms in the
school, Now it will be based
on a combination of the
number of rooms and the
enrolment figure in the
school. This is an attempt to
equalize the working hours,
The wages for the
secretaries will be $4.20 per
hour with zero experience,
$4.35 with one year's ex-
perience and $4.50 per hour
with two years or more, all
effective as of September 1,
1978,

teen young people respond
for the baby-sitting course
at the fire -hall last Satur-
day. He is well qualified to

taken fire -fighting instruc-
tion himself during his eigh-
teen years of fire -protection
service at the radar school
in Clinton. The other
members of the Bayfield
Association are unanimous
in their praise of his dedica-
tion as a volunteer.
It was "Open House" at
the fire -hall. The pumpers
were out -front and in the
morning half a hundred
youngsters swarmed over
them, _
In the afternoon fifty adult
visitors were given a tour of
the fire -hall and again Perce
was on hand to explain the
uses of the equipment
Wedding Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs, Milton
Talbot, RR 1, Varna,
celebrated their 40th Wed-
ding Anniversary with
friends, neighbours and
relatives on October 21st, at
the `Sugar Bush' south of
Bayfield. The honoured cou-
ple have two children, Doyle
Talbot of Exeter and
Rosemarie Taman of RR 1,
Varna. They have six
grandchildren.
Guests were present from
Detroit, St. Clair, Sarnia,
Barrie, Brantford, An -
caster, Forest, London, New
Hamburg and surrounding
district. Entertainment was
provided by the bride's
eleven brothers and sisters
and special friend Bernie
Fansher.
The toast to the bride and
groom of forty years ago
was made by Isadore
Bedard, brother of the bride.
Well wishes were conveyed
by Lawrence Talbot, brother
of the groom. Laura Taman,
granddaughter read the
presentation.
Bayfield Agriculture Society
Six persons represented
the Bayfield Agricultural
Society at the Annual
Conference of the
Agricultural Society of
District Eight which was
held at -the Community Cen-
tre on the Fair Grounds at
Kirkton. They were Marilyn
Haw, president of the ladies
section, Bud Yeo, Kathleen
Siertsema, Jean and Ted
Dunn and Audrey Graham.
After a pot -luck supper, Mr.
.A.J. Peppin of the Ministry
of Agriculture and Food ad-
dressed the Society and
showed slides taken at
various fairs throughout On-
tario.
N.D.P. Executive Meeting
Mr. and Mrs. Clint Gibson
were hosts for the N.D.P.
Executive meeting on
Thursday. Stu and Sylvia
Crane, RR 1, Woodham,
Helen Tench, Clinton, Peter
Toye, Wingham, Gwen
Pemberton, Bayfield and
newly elected member Ber-
nie Fansher were present.
The president, Stu Crane
emphasized the urgency to
nominate a Federal Can-
didate in the Huron -
Middlesex Riding, as can-
didates have been chosen in
all but one or two ridings.
He reported an increase of
8% in the Ontario
membership which now
stands at 29,064, There are
fifty two members in this
riding.
Personals
Mr. and Mrs. Walter
Turner celebrated their 50th
wedding anniversary on
Tuesday, October 31st. They
were honoured on Sunday
evening by their children,
Debbie and Dave Fawcett of
London, Stewart and Kathy
Turner of Zurich and Wendy
of Bayfield. The couple
received as a gift a 400 day
anniversary clock. They
then had a corsage and
boutonniere pinned on and
were guests at a dinner at
the Corkscrew Restaurant
in London.
Mr. and Mrs. Herb Beatty

entertained at, a_ family
dinner at the Albion Hotel on
Saturday, October 28th in
honour of their son Jim who
is leaving'for a year in Saudi
Arabia. Present were Pat
and Harry James and fami-
ly, London, Susan and Jim
Beatty and family, Debbie
and Robert Beatty and fami-
ly, Toronto, Ruthann and
Steve Stinton, Pickering and
Ann and David Beatty of
Oshawa.
Mr. and Mrs. Lee Etue of
Detroit visited Mr. and Mrs.
Ivan Steckle recently.
Mr, and Mrs. Jim
Hodgins, Colin and Scott of
Port Dover visited with
Jim's parents Mr. and Mrs.
J.B. Higgins before leaving
for Thunder Bay where Jim
has received a promotion
with Ontario Hydro.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Baker
spent four days in Mattawa
visiting Harry's. sister-in-
law. They. enjoyed a very
lovely drive through north.
Julia Walden was enter-
tained at a surprise dinner
by Grahame Beakhust
London, England while she
was holidaying in England
and France recently.
A birthday cake provided
by Phyllis Heard in honor of
Marnie Walden was greatly
enjoyed at tfie Afternoon
Bridge Club weekly game.
Marnie also received the
high score and Joyce Chilton
was low.
