-With three days left for
nominations, only ,two can-
didates have filed nomina=
tion papers in areas covered
by the Citizens News.
As of Tuesday, ,the clerk -
treasurers of Stanley,
Zurich and Hensall reported
the younger children is very
important to her but stress-
ed that education is an on-
. going process. •
Mrs. Noakes said her
return to the educational
system gave her a great
respect for both the students
andteachers of today.
In Hay. township, Tony
Bedard has announced he
will seek a position on the
township council.
Bedard owner of the
Towne and Country Bowling
Lanes and restaurant and a
resident of -Hay for ten
years, said he is running
because he, is extremely in-
terested in the township.
Acting on behalf of the
people who have problems
with the township is what he
would do, Bedard said.
Bedard has run for council
on three previous occasions,
winning a seat in the 1974. _
election.

Mrs. Minnie Noakes of Hen-
sall, a former reeve and
councillor for the village.

will graduate with her high
school honours diploma

school, said education has
always been a concern of
hers.

MINNIE NOAKES
McKinnon has served on
council for the past four
• years and said "That's
enough."
Gelinas who has served on
council since 1976 said he
found it an interesting ex-
perience but added "I think I
started too late."
Business pressures were
the reason why he was not
seeking re-election said
Laporte, a six veteran of
council.
Haberer said he was still
assessing his position and
stated it was time other
citizens in the community
got involved in the running
of the village. Haberer has
served as reeve for four
years and prior to that was
on council for a two year
term.
Thiel,' a former reeve of
the village who's been in-
volved in community affairs
for over • twenty years,' said
he was undecided but that
"He won't stand in the way
for somebody who wants to
enter municipal politics." In
this his most recent service
the village, Thiel has served
on council since 1972.
Election day this year is
November 13 with an ad-
vance poll on November 4.
Nominations close on 'Mon-
day.
Following several com-
plaints, the Zurich Recrea-
tion, Parks and Community
Centre Board has changed
its fee structure for the
operation of the bar at social
events in the community
centre.
The Board had originally
opted for a charge of $1
dollar per bottle of mix
which groups renting the
facility must purchase from
the community centre.
At the September council
meeting, McKinnon said the
dollar fee was in reality a
corkage charge- which was
the way most halls were
operating.
McKinnon told council the
primary concern of people
who wanted the hall was
knowing how much they
would be paying. The board

agreed to change the per
bottle charge to a flat rate of
$50.
He said the board felt the
per bottle charge was a
fairer way of doing things
but they were willing to go
along with what the people
wanted.
The new rate is still
cheaper compared to hall
charges at either Hensall or
Exeter, McKinnon said.
In other board news, Jake
Peters was hired to assist
Jerry Rader in the running
of the arena once ice making
is started.
The Goshen street
not run
renewal continues to be a
thorn in the side of council
with vacations by the
village's engineer and wet
fall conditions hampering
progress on the project.
Laporte told council a
digging up of a section of the
drain showed a possibility of
a mixture of cement and
plastic pipesbeing used for
the drain.
Burns Ross the village
engineer had said in August
the cost replacing the drain
from the intersection of the
highway and Goshen street
to the post office could cost
$19,500.
•
Council felt the cost
quoted was out of line and
that the drain was operating
satisfactorily.
Thiel agreed the drain
might be in need of some
repair but it did not need to
be totally replaced.
•
Both Thiel and Gelinas
questioned why Ross who
was the village's engineer
when the Goshen was torn
up a few years ago, had not
told council at the time that
the drain should -lie replac-
ed.
Haberer said "I'm disap-
