Their happy faces Get your metric plans Keeping pace with the construction industry, the Canada Plan Service now provides plans of agricultural structures in metric units. The Canada Plan Service provides detailed plans of modern farm buildings, livestock housing systems, storages, and equipment. Plans are available to far- mers, contractors, and other members of the agricultur,A indus try. In the past year, 50 of the 500 plans available were converted from imperial to metric units, says Jim Arnold, Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food agricultural engineer. Other metric plans will be available as existing plans are revised, and as new plans are developed. "In the next three years, most of the popular plans will be available in metric units," says Mr. Arnold. "However, plans will be available in imperial units as long as the demand exists." "We are preparing forthe day when we will be dealing exclusively in metric units," he says. "The ready -mix concrete industry now uses metric units, and the lumber and steel industries will soon change." The whole series of trussed rafter plans, now available in imperial units, is in the process of conversion to metric. New plans for braced rafter (hip) roofs are available in both units. Canada Plan Service plans are designed by experts from provincial ministries of agriculture, in cooperation with the Canada Plan Ser- vice Design Center, Agriculture Canada, Ottawa. In Ontario, plans are available from agricultural engineers at local offices of the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food. You gave them recognition. They joked with you about a caption for the photo. You, very loosely went along with their eleven to thirteen -year- old suggestions. Considering the meanings of the words "mob" and "mafia" we are unhappy at your immature act of printing what appeared in the September 28th Citizens News. We, as parents, know our responsibilities are tough enough. The local newspaper has no right to make light of the very serious implications suggested by words which these young boys don't fully understand now and we would hope they never would comprehend them, 4-H club trys granola by Lori Turkheim This past Wednesday, the Metric Marvels, the local 4- H club had their first meeting of the year. The night's activities consisted of making granola through metric measurements. Following 45 minutes of cooking, the girls discovered that the changing of the measurement units did not change the taste of the granola. Therefore, Mr. Editor, we ask that you apologize publicly in the Citizens News for irresponsible reporting. In the future where moral issues are at stake, please consider the ramifications of everything you write before you hastily print. Remember that most of us hope to be assisting our young people in growing up to be responsible citizens of the community. Let the newspaper editor realize that his improved judgement can be an asset in sowing seeds that develop good citizenship.
