Hay reeve to try again for Warden's chair
By Jeff Seddon
At least three county
councillors will be seeking
the post of Warden for
Huron County for 1979
provided voters in their own
municipality see fit to
return them to county coun-
cil chambers in November.
Jack Tinney, reeve of Hay
township, Harold Robinson,
Howick township reeve, and
Ervin Sillery, reeve of
Tuckersmith township, an-
nounced at Friday's county
council session that they in-
tend to seek the warden's
chair for 1979.
Tinney and Robinson were
definite in their decision to
seek the post but Sillery told
council that he couldn't be
absolutely certain this early
that he would be running for
the post but would say now
that "if there was going to
be a race be may be in it'

Solar greenhouse may be
installed next week
According to a spokesman
for the Bluewater Solar
Greenhouse group, the unit
which they have ordered
could be installed as early as
next week.
Wellwood Gill, one of the
ten directors for the Solar
greenhouse group said the
greenhouse which was
ordered from Hotfield
Systems of Lindsay was
scheduled to be shipped
during the first week of
October.
The unit which is 10 feet by
twelve feet and is worth
$2,400 will be located to the
east side of the rest home so
as to facilitate easier
maintenance of the unit.
As a supplementary
source of warmth when
extremely cold tem-
peratures occur, electrical
heating will automatically
cut in, Gill stated.
Credit for the original idea
for the procurement of the
unit should go to the late
Anthony DeBosdari, Gill
said, with DeBosdari and
other directors of the group
investigating other similar
installations.
Gill stated that the
greenhouse is for use by both
Maplewoods and Blue Water
resident with the residents,of
the two buildings "Hopefully
developing a green thumb."
While the intent of the
project was never to make
money Gill stated, there
should be some savings
involved as the seedlings for
the many plants that
enhance both Maplewoods
and the rest home will be
grown in the greenhouse. In'
additiqn to the growing of
flowers, •residents of
Maplewoods who have a
garden at the apartments
could begin the growth of
their vegetables earlier, Gill
stated.
Lay charges
against youths
Charges have been laid
.against two area juveniles as
a result of police, in-
vestigation into some recent
break, enter and thefts.
The two have been
charged by Exeter OPP
Constables Frank Giffin and
Don Mason, who in-
vestigated the theft of a cart
at Parkhill, the theft of some
money from the Corbett store
and other area incidents.
Only one theft was
reported to the local detach-
ment this week, it involving
a picnic table from the
ministry of transportation
and communication park on
Highway 83 near the Huron -
Perth line.
It was the third picnic
table stolen from the park in
recent weeks,.
Earlier, it had been an-
nounced by the federal
department of health and
welfare that the group had
received a grant totaling
$3,475. The funds over and
above the unit's purchase
price will be used for its
installation, Gill said.
Tinney is taking his se-
cond run at the warden's job
in as many years. The Hay
reeve opposed Goderich
township reeve Gerry Ginn
and.. West Wasanosh
township reeve Robert
Lyons for the warden's chair
in 1978 and was edged by
Ginn in the second round of
voting.
Tinney told council he felt
he could fill the warden's
chair and was going to stand
for the job after an "almost
successful campaign" last
year. He said in his 16 years
of public office he had only
been acclaimed twice and
was noted for elections.
Harold Robinson said he
realized council may think
he was_ in "a hurry" to be
warden since his present
Campbell out
in Hensall
With nominations for the
upcoming municipal elec-
tions two weeks away, only
one of Hensall's council
members has declared that
he will not be running.
Homer Campbell gave no
specific reason for not
running but he said that
other people within the
community should be given
an opportunity to serve.
Both councillors Paul
Nielands and Bev Bonthron
are undecided as to whether
they will run with Bonthron
saying he will make decision
by the October council
meeting.
Reeve Harold Knight said
he will let his name stand for
the position which he won in
1976.
Public Utility Com-
missioners Charles Hay and
John Baker said they will be
running for their existing
positions.
According to clerk -
treasurer Betty Oke
nominations open October 16
and close on October 23.
The advance poll will be on
November 4 with the actual
election day set for
November 13.
term of reeve had only been
since 1977. But Robinson
pointed out that he first
served the county in 1965 as
deputy reeve and returned
the following year as reeve
of his township, a post he
held until 1972 when he was
defeated "over a little
problem in the township".
He said he served on the
county land division com-
mittee during his absence
from county council and
returned to the office of
reeve of his township in 1972.
Sillery said he wasn't
prepared to make a decision
on running for warden but
since he was asked by
warden Gerry Ginn he would
say that he would stand for
the job with some "ifs".
Usborne reeve Bill Morley
told council that he wished
to clear the air about his in-
tentions. He said there
seemed to be some indica-
tion that he would let his
name stand for warden but
personal commitments
wouldn't permit that to
happen. "However 1980 is
another year," said Morley.
Warden Ginn said he
"hoped he was not giving
• council the impression that
if councillors didn't an-
nounce their intentions Fri-
day they were out". Ginn
said that since the elections
were moved to earlier in the
year now he felt that he
would try to create a little
"interest" and get some
"election fever going".
Ginn said he hoped he
hadn't embarrassed anyone
pointing out that anyone
thinking of running for
warden had until the
November session of county
council to state their inten-
tions.
