Golden Glimpses
Residents who enjoy their
daily walk around the
grounds are not too happy
with the weather we have
been having during the past
week as it keeps them con-
fined indoors.
We are just beginning to
line up fall and winter
programmes so if you have a
group who would care to
spend an hour some evening
to entertain the residents,
please call the office and we
will be pleased to arrange a
time suitable to both par-
ties.
Interest is picking up in
the hobby shop now that the
weather is cooler.
We are interested in
receiving narrow ribbon or
coloured seam binding also
white plastic shopping bags.
CIean worn nylons or panty
hose are always in demand.
Residents who have been
o'ut visiting during the week
are Mrs. Arletta Hess, Mrs.
Beatrice Overholt, Mrs.
Tillie Rau, Mrs. Mary
Sturley, Miss Flossie Davey,
Mrs. Ruby Hoggarth, Mrs.
Natalie Ness, Mrs. Martha
Miller, Mrs. Agnes Siemon
and Miss Cecil McLeod.
On Friday evening, bingo
was played followed by
refreshments.
The Sunday evening
chapel service was con-
ducted by Rev. Bruce Guy of
the Zurich United Church.

Moderator to be at church tent
' Moderator Dr. George
Tuttle will spend a good por-
tion of 'the International
Plowing Match's opening
day at the United Church
tent, according to Huron -
Perth Presbytery officials.
It is expected the church
leader will officially open
the facility at 11 a.m.
Talking to people, as he
will be doing, is in keeping
with Dr. Tuttle's style. Since
the principle of St. Stephen's
College in Edmonton was
elected moderator this past
August he has shown that
though he may not grab
many headlines he can talk
common sense for ordinary
people. More than thirty
years of working with
students and young people
taught him to be practical
and to avoid complicated
theology.
Dr. Tuttle has expressed a
desire to become familiar
with the international event,
to be held in Wingham, and
its people. Those who know

him say his main contribu-
tion as moderator will be his
concern for people. His in-
terest in camping and
bicycling seem to bear this
out.
The head of the United
Church has strong opinions
on some subjects. Living in
Edmonton he has studied the
pipeline question and native
rights. He's well informed
on energy matters, en-
vironment and pollution.
He's keen on science but
concerned about some
detrimental human effects
of technology.
The tent, at the corner of
Armstrong and Third in the
Tented City, is being mann-
ed by different areas of the
Presbytery each day.
Besides an extensive book
store, local interest slides
and the UCW hostess sec-
tion, serving coffee and
cookies, it is .planned to have
a continuous musical
program .
