Many people in the area may not remember the late
Harp Rivers, but he has a special place in the memory of
Fred Darling, because he started his business career in
Rivers Meat Market 36 years ago.
Four years later, Fred joined partnership with Bill
Chambers and purchased the business from Harp. They
operated Chambers and Darling Meat Market and when
that partnership was dissolved, Fred started Darling's
Meat Market and then took over the IGA franchise.
In 1959, he moved the store to its present site and it
was expanded in size in 1965. Darling's continued to ex.
pand by establishing in Lucan in 1962 and Huron Park in
1969. In 1973, their modern new abattoir•at the north end
of Exeter was completed and two years later The Darling's
Feedlot was established to ensure family control on beef
quality.
Fred's 36 years in the grocery and meat business have
earned him a reputation for quality standards, value and
customer acceptance. Equally important is Darling's
reputation for service ... the helpful clerk, the butcher
who cuts it just the way you want, or the friendly fellow
who helps carry your parcels,
Fred has now been joined in the business by sons Jim,
Joe and Jeff (Jack's on leave of absence at the race track)
and they have followed in their father's footsteps in
providing you with quality and service. -
Join the Darling's in their special anniversary
celebrations as they say thanks to their many valued
customers with some super food specials.
