What was once a childs toy, with a conversion kit added they are four to six pounds of dynamic fun. It has become such a growing sport that associations and pulling competitions have been formed. Zurich's match will feature over twenty com- petitiors. If you have never seen a child's toy tractor pull over 60 pounds you should be in the pulling area at 3:30 p.m. at Zurich Fair. This competition is for the Molson's Awards. SCHOOL IS FOR EVERYONE-- The Vacation Bible School operating out of Zurich Public School caters to children of all ages. Staff photo Buckeyes win first tourney on weekend By PAUL MORRISON The Zurich Buckeyes came up with their first tournament championship this past weekend at Strathroy as they won the A Division. Zurich's first game was against London Ceramics and came up with a 5-2 victory. Zurich scored two runs in the second and fourth in- nings, plus a single run in the third. Jeff O'Brien led the hitters with two hits while Rick Schilbe, Pat Bedard, Kevin McKinnon and Glen Overholt collected one apiece. Bob Farquhar went the full distance on the mound allowing only five hits. In the second game the Buckeyes defeated Strathroy by a score of 4-1, Zurich scored two in first inning and single runs in 'the sixth and seventh. Kim McKinnon and Steve Bedour with two hits apiece led the Zurich attack. Single hits went to Rick Schilbe, Jeff O'Brien, Cliff Zurich sisters place in contest Two sisters from the Zurich area received honourable mention in the Stratford and district right to life poster contest. Carolyn and Colleen Regier of RR 3, Zurich, were among the five entrants to receive honourable mention in the contest which had as its theme "Respect for Life." All entries will be shown at the Stratford fall fair in September. Gingerich and Kevin McKinnon. Cliff Gingerich pitched for Zurich and was sharp, as he allowed only four hits with striking out six. Game three saw Zurich matched up against Ker - wood and the team from , Zurich won by a score of 8-1. Rick Schilbe was the big hitter for Zurich collecting four hits. Pat Bedard and Kim McKinnon- each collected two, while Kevin McKinnon, Steve Bedour, Jeff O'Brien, Brian Hodgins and Glen Overholt each collected one. Brian Hodgins pitched for Zurich going the distance, allowing four hits, while striking out six. Game four was the 'A' championship and the Buckeyes came up with a 6-3 victory over Strathroy. The Buckeyes scored one run in the second, three in the third and one in the fourth inning to capture the victory. Steve Bedour was top hitter with two hits. Single hits to Rick Schilbe, Cliff Gingerich and Wayne Clarke. • Cliff Gingerich pitched the entire game for Zurich allowing fivehits and striking out four. At the end of the cham- pionship game the Buckeyes were presented with a cheque for$300.Throughout the tournament the Buckeyes played great ball behind the good coaching of Murray Baker and Manager Glenn Koehler. Also a special thanks to all the Zurich fans who came to the tournament tocheer them on, especially for the championship game.
