Residents out visiting during the week were Mrs. Gertrude Gittus, Mr. Khattar, Mrs. Ann Oligny, Mrs. Jennetta Finnigan, Mrs. Ella Jory, Mrs. Bernice Overholt, Mr. Fred Weiberg, Mrs. Ferne Bowman, Mrs. Alma Southcott, Mrs. Emma. Bennewies, and Mrs. Alice Thompson. The sympathy of residents and staff is extended to the family of the late Mr. Dolph Sopha. We are pleased to report that Miss. Susan Hartman has returned from South Huron Hospital. On Tuesday evening, the Dashwood Women's REDI-MIX CONCRETE All Types of Concrete Work McCann Const. Ltd. DASHWOOD Phone 237-3647 (free estimates) Institute sponsored the monthly birthday party. A variety programme was presented consisting of piano and violin selections by Mr. & Mrs. Ross Love of Dash- wood. Mrs. Dave Rader sang and accompanied herself on the piano, Miss, Carol Rader played a piano solo,, Mrs. Ross Love and Mrs. J.M. Tieman sang a duet ac- companied on the piano by Mrs. Ken McCrae and on the violin by Mr. Ross Love. Miss Brenda Rader played the ukulele and sang. Residents having birthdays during the month of May were Mrs. Ethel Appleton, Mrs. Emma Bennewies, Mrs. Jennetta Finnigan and • Mrs. Anne Oligny. Mrs. Emil Becker was.chairlady for the programme. Refreshments including a birthday cake were enjoyed by the residents following the programme. If any of the readers have white sugar bags which they do. not have use for, the hobby shop would be pleased to receive them. We are pleased to welcome Mrs. Ella Jory, formerly of Exeter and Mr. Horton McDougall of Hensall as new residents. Bingo was played on Thursday evening followed by refreshments. The residents were pleased to have Mr. & Mrs. Earl Heywood visit them on Sunday afternoon and present a variety programme which was enjoyed by all. The Sunday evening chapel service was con- ducted by Rev. Stewart Miner of Exeter. Miss Viola Cadger presided at the organ during the service. Judge Huron 4-H crops Out of 17 competitors John Van Vliet, RR 2 Brussels collected 793 points out of a possible 850 to be the top competitor in the senior class at the recent Huron County 4-H Livestock and Field Crops Judging Competition. Alan Powe, RR 2 Cen- tralia came a close second with 783 points. Powe along with Van Vliet were com- peting with other young peo- ple between the ages of 18 and 30 and to all those who are graduates of a two year diploma course in agriculture. As well, Van Vliet took the United Co-operatives of On- tario trophy for the highest score in the entire competi- tion, while Powe was the runner-up. In the intermediate divi- sion, Gordon Alton, RR 7 Lucknow .scored 756 points to take first place while Joyce Dougherty, RR 6, Goderich came second with 750. The two were com- peting against 57 others between the ages of 15 and 17. Out of the 36 competitors in the junior class, open to young people between the ages of 13 and 14, Buce Godkin, RR 1 Walton came first with 743 points. David Townsend, RR 4 Seaforth finished second with 732. Entering the competition for the first time and last year's pre 4-H club members, Paul Hoggarth, RR 2 Kippen had 688 points for first. Jeff Feagan, RR 4 Goderich scored 683 to come second out of the 37 other competitors, aged 12 to 17 years. As well, Hoggarth took the Canadian National Exhibi- tion Shield for the high novice judge. Feagan came second. hi the pre 4-H Class, open to those 11 years of age, Mary Gibson, RR 5 Clinton scored 674 to take first place from the 16 competitors. Kevin Ruttan, RR 2 Gorrie gathered 651 points for se- cond. The CIL trophy for the highest score in the swine section was won by Gordon Alton who scored 99 out of a possible 100. Runners up were Gordon Alton, 96 points and John Van Vliet, 96 points as well. The Huron Cattleman's Association award went to Jackie Brand, RR 3 Clinton for the highest score of 96 points in the beef section.
