HomeMy WebLinkAboutZurich Citizens News, 1978-05-25, Page 3Citizens News, May 25, 1978 Page 3 Rumrnage sale is hrst eevent Today, the first event in the new Hensall Community Centre (Arena) will be held when the Hensall and District Kinettes hold their Rummage Sale at 7 p.m. Much effort and planning Hensall Hilda Payne Bertha McGregor has gone into the building of the Community Centre which has seen the com- munity raise approximately $145,000. To achieve this result, two auction sales have been held, the first to sell all salvagable materials from the interior of the old arena and the second to dispose of the wrecked exterior. Men- nonite help was obtained to pull down the former arena. The new Community Centre will contain an ice skating surface, change and wash rooms, hall and kitchen, all of which have now been completed except the ice surface. Other events to be held in the Community Centre in the near future are the An- nual Seed Fair and the On- tario Fiddler's Contest. Spring Rally The spring rally of the Huron Presbyterial was held in Carmel Presbyterian Church, Hensall, on May 17 with members from Seaforth, Goderich, Auburn, Belgrave and Hensall at- tending. The president, Mrs. Elmer Rivers, Seaforth, presided. Mrs. McAllister of Goderich gave a report of the Synodical held at Leamington. The devotional program was given by the Arthur Circle of Goderich. Mrs. Malcolm Dougall and Mrs. Edith Bell favoured with a piano duet. The guest speaker, Miss Dianna Wadsworth, missionary on furlough from India where she is on the staff of the Helen McDonald Nursing School, showed interesting pictures of the work she is doing in that area. Lodge Drapes Charter Mrs. Maggie Campbell, Noble Grand of Amber Rebekah Lodge presided at the meeting Wednesday evening assisted by Mrs. Pearl Eyre P.N.G. The charter was draped in memory of Bros. Wm. Gorrell Q.C. sobicitor of Grand Lodge and Sister Irene Meigs Past President of the International association of Rebekah's. Mrs. Aldeen Volland R.S.V.G. reported for the visiting committee and Mrs. Margaret Consitt L.S.N.G. reported for the C.P.T. committee. Mrs. Irene Blackwell,financial secretary gave the financial report. Members were reminded of the inaugural meeting to be held June 28 at 8 p.m. at Edelweiss Lodge, Seaforth. Nominations followed. Mrs. Pearl Eyre was appointed Vice Grand for the remainder of this term. Euchre and bingo was played following the meeting. Personals Miss Dana Armstrong of Goderich visited with -Mrs. Pearl Koehler over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Wright attended the wed- ding of the former's cousin Carol Marchmont to Bishop Wysocki at the Albion Presbyterian Church, Rex - dale on Saturday, and afterwards the reception at the Woodland Golf and Coun- try Club. Mrs. Joe Flynn who recently underwent surgery at St. Joseph's Hospital, London returned to her home on Saturday. Mrs. Ernie Davis who has been receiving treatment in South Huron Hospital, returned to her home on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Austin Wheeler of Detroit spent the week -end with their aunt, Mrs. Edgar. Munn. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Smith of Detroit visited with the former's uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Oesch on Saturday. Also Mr. Oliver Bedard of Sarnia visited on Saturday. All interested parents are invited to attend a planning session to organize a Bake Sale on behalf of a co-op Nursery School in Hensall. This meeting will be held at the home of Andy Imanse, 109 Albert Street at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Campbell of Toronto were weekend visitors with the DISPLAY SEWING TALENTS — Senior students at Hensall Public we're engaged in shop and home economics classes at Seaforth District High School this past winter. Irvin Eacrett of Seattle, Wash.visited this week with Mr. and Mrs. Earl Campbell, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Shaddick of Clinton were recent visitors with Mrs. Pearl Shaddick, Mr. and Mrs. George Beer and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lavery spent the week -end on a fishing trip to Stoke's Bay. Mrs. William Petty who was a patient in South Huron Hospital, returned to her home on Friday.
