Soccer team plays first game
Monday night, the
Bayfield Soccer team played
its first game of the season
against a new team from
Vanastra and won 3 to 1.
Andrew' Couper is
Bayfield's new coach this
season but Fred Gale is still,
the manager and he is also
the coach of the Vanastra
Bayfield

team. As a matter of in-
terest, Vanastra has three
girls on its team and the
goalie is Linda McFadden
according to Fred does a real
good job considering its her
first year at soccer.
During the weekend, the
Bayfield soccer team and the
baseball teams were busy
putting in new goal posts and
moving the field to make it
more convenient for both the
soccer and ball.
Heywoods entertain
Twenty-five members of
the Bayfield Ever Young
Club were entertained
Monday night last by the
Zurich Senior Citizens Club
in the town hall in Zurich.
The hall was filled to
capacity and were en-
tertained by Martha and
Earl Heywood of C.K.N.X.
Wingham. They presented a
wonderful program of music
and song and Earl did his bit
as a magician which was
enjoyed by all. Numerous
prizes were given and the
hostess club served a
delicious lunch,
Bake sa le on Saturday
With the devotions theme
on Mothers Day, Marilyn
Haw and Jean Dunn opened
the May 10 meeting of Unit 11
St, Andrew's U.C.W. held at
the home of Kathleen
Siertsema.
President Carol Fisher
conducted the business and
plans were made for the
following spring sctivities.
Saturday a bake sale at 11
a.m. In case of rain the bake
sale will be held in the
Church.
June 10, the UCW mem-
bers were asked for
billetings for the Junior
Choir, numbering about 45
from Kingsway Lampton
Church of Toronto. They will
be providing the 'entire
church service in St.
Andrews on Sunday morning
June 11. Anyone interested in
billeting these young people
aged 8 to 15 years is asked to
contact Betty Burch at 565-
2627.
Summer nursery
Alfred McLaughlin read
the lesson for Whitsunday of
St. Pauls great explanation
of the work of God the Holy
Spirit in which the
congregation heard the first
portion which told that
through reunion with the
Holy Spirit we are "sons of
God."
The Rector announced

people of the Diocese, bet-
ween the ages of 8 years and
16 years. Parents- are en-
couraged to consider this
Christian experience for

children to Huron Church
Camp you are urged to
register now.
With the influex of sum-
mer visitors to the area, the
Church wishes to make
available a Nursery. If
anyone has any pre-school
toys or books or whatever,
the Church would appreciate
their donation to the Sunday
School.

On Thursday, the Bayfield
Ever Young Club en-
tertained the Golden Gate
Seniors from Goderich in
Trinity Church Parish Hall.
A film on Alberta was
presented and afterwards
several games of euchre
were enjoyed.
Guild Meets
Seventeen members an-
swered the roll call at the
Trinity Guild meeting in the
Parish Hall, Thursday af-
ternoon. President, Lorna
Merner opened the meeting
with the Creed and Lord's
Prayer repeated in unison.
Vina Parker read the Bible
reading for Mothers Day
taken from Proverbs which
were King Lemuels lessons
of chastity and obedience
and the praise and
properties of a good wife,
taught to him by his mother.
Mothers Day poems were
read by the president who.
also read a letter from the
Guilds' foster son in India.
During the business
session, the Guild moved to
pay for the painting of the
outside of the Church.
No Garbage
The residents of the
Village are reminded that
May 22 being a holiday there
will be no garbage pickup.
However the garbage will be
picked up on Tuesday May 23
and also there will be a trash
pick-up the same day. You
are asked to keep your
garbage and trash separate.
Bake Sale
The regular meeting of
Unit 1 U.C.W. of St,
Andrew's United Church was
held Thursday afternoon at
the home of Mrs. Vivian
Morton, There were 27
members present. The
devotional period was led by
Mrs. Betty Burch assisted by
Mrs. Elva Metcalf and Mrs.
Gwen Pemberton. The
theme was "Practical
Christianity" and the work
of Father Abraham in his
school for Indian children
high up in the Himalayas
was described briefly. Mrs.
Metcalf and Mrs. Pemberton
read parts of personal letters
they had received from
Father Abraham. These
letters portrayed vividly the
work done to help the
children win the war against
poverty and ignorance.
A short business meeting
followed with plans being
discussed for the Bake Sale
to be held on Mrs. Ruth
Makins' lawn on Saturday
May 20. Plans were made for
entertaining the young
people for the Award win-
ning Junior Choir of
Kingsway Lampton Church
They will be in the village the
weekend of June 10 and 11
and will sing at the Sunday
morning service in St.
Andrew's on June 11.

Travel to flats
Bayfield Boy Scouts and
Cubs enjoyed part of
Saturday along with their
leaders on a hike and fishing
derby at Brandon's flats.
According to the young
people they didn't catch
anything but according to
one of the leaders, he said it
was early to tell if any of the
boys caught a cold.
The Scouts will be going to
a Blue jays baseball game in
Toronto on May 13 with
several other Scouts in the
area.
Huron District Camporee
will be held on May 26, 27 and
28 at Point Farms Provincial
Park, north of Goderich. The
Scouts and Cubs will leave
from the United Church at
5:30 p.m. Friday evening
and return home Sunday
afternoon. Should any parent
of the boys wish to go along
they would be more than
Gvelcome, but they are asked
to contact Scouter John
Siertsema as soon as
possible.
