HomeMy WebLinkAboutZurich Citizens News, 1978-03-30, Page 16Page 16 Citizens News, March 30, 1978 Golden Glimpses The crocus and the daf- fodils were brave enough to make their appearance on the weekend but Easter Sunday was hardly a day for taking a stroll down the board walk showing off your Easter toggery. Films were shown followed by refreshments on Monday evening. The ladies of the Kippen Womens' Institute sponsored the March birthday party on Tuesday evening. The residents enjoyed a variety program of piano music, violin selections, tap dancing and singing. Residents having birthdays during the month and receiving gifts were Mr. Fred Fowlie, Mrs. Jenny Hotson, Mr. William Passmore and Miss Pearl Wurtz. Following the programme a delicious lunch was enjoyed. On Thursday afternoon, the girls of the 4H Club visited the Home. Miss Dorcas Gingerich played several selections on the organ while other girls of the group. visited with the residents. Bingo was also played on Thursday af- ternoon in the hobby shop. The annual May Day tea and bake sale will be held on Saturday afternoon, May 13. Please make a note of this date and watch for further announcements. The members of the ladies auxiliary please note that the regular monthly meeting for April will be held on next Tuesday, 7:00 p.m. All members and interested ladies of the community are invited to attend. We welcome Miss Milverna Geiger back from University Hospital much improved. The movie to be shown in the recreation room of Maplewoods will be an old favourite, Emperor Waltz, on Thursday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Our last movie will be shown the end of April so now is the time to take advantage of this programme. Residents out over the Easter weekend were Mrs. Susan Snider, Mrs... Mary Sturley, Mrs. Mabel Gossman, Mrs. Alice Thompson, Mrs. Gertrude Gittus, Mrs. Finnigan and Mrs. Oligny. The Sunday evening chapel service was con- duc ted on Sunday evening by Rev. Grant Mills, assistant minister of Exeter United Church. Miss Viola Cadger presided at the organ. The monthly song service at Huronview sponsored by For The Best In * PARTS * ACCESSORIES * SERVICE * RENTALS its the Clinton Christian Reformed Church and led by Mr. Dick Roorda was held in the auditorium Sunday evening. Mrs. Elsie Hen- derson accompanied at the piano for the hymns, with special musical numbers by Peggy, Slootengraaf. Molly Cox led a sing -a -long and accompanied the Huronview orchestra at Monday's old-tyme music program. The Goderich township Women's Institute volunteers assisted with activities. Eight members of the Holmesville 4-H club visited the Home on Wednesday afternoon and assisted the residents to and from the bingo. Visiting and helping seniors is one of this year's projects for 4-H clubs. Many thanks to the girls and their leaders, Mrs. Case Brand, her daughter Jackie and Mrs. Bill Brand, who provided transportation. R. K. In the back row are (left -right) coach June Fisher, Mike Van Raay, Dennis Hoffman and coach Donna Lesperance. In the front row are Mike Bedard, Janet Regier, Tracy Lesperance and Lori Anne Bedard. Seniors congregate at Dashwood By MRS. IRVIN RADER DASH WOOD Bayfield and Grand Bend seniors were guests at the March meeting . with ap- proximately 90 in at- tendance. The president, Mervyn Tieman welcomed everyone and Ross Love's group had the program. Several Don Messer films were shown with sing song during intermission. Euchre and crokinole were played. Although there were no prizes. for these there was much hilarity as special prizes were given for the following: Door prize, Connie Lewis, Grand Bend; largest number of letters in your name, Emma Louisa Florentine Boogeman, Dash- wood; man with longest arrn stretch, Jim Prance, Grand Bend; lady with lowest neck- line, Mrs. Brown, Bayfield; man with the largest waist- line, Oscar Miller, Dash- wood; lady with the most jewelry, Mary Ravelle, Grand Bend; man with the brightest tie, Bill Park, Bayfield; lady with the most 5c pieces, Florence Keller, Dashwood; man with the most 25c pieces, Charles Martene, Dashwood; lady with a -run in her stocking, Mrs. Baker,.. Bayfield. Balloons from Cleveland Monday morning when Delmar Miller went to do his chores he found some balloons in his corn field with a gospel message from Calvary Reformed Church in Cleveland, Ohio. The travel agency told Mrs. Miller it would be at least 300 miles as the crow flies. She has written to them and will await a reply. Flowers placed Flowers in both the United church and the Lutheran church were in loving memory of little Billy Rader. Communion held Special communion ser- vices were held Good Friday in both churches. A sunrise service was held in the Lutheran church by the Youth (Joy) of the church followed by breakfast prepared and served by the Youth with their mothers. Win cake, bunny Lori Anne and Wendy Boogemans held an Easter draw for Bunny Bundle. Mark Keller, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Keller won the chocolate cake and Betty Riddell, Grand Bend, won the chocolate Easter egg bunny. Proceeds amounted to $14.25. The girls thanked everyone who bought tickets. Easter visitors John Kellerman, Toronto with Mrs. Mildred Keller- man. Mr. & Mrs. Earl Stumpf, Kitchener, with Mr. and Mrs. Albert Miller and other relatives. Mr. & Mrs. Irvin Rader and Mr. & Mrs. Dave Rader, Stacey and Dereck attended a Rader family gathering at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Fred Miller and girls, Zion, Sunday. Mr: & Mrs. Harold Maine, Kitchener, with Mr. & Mrs. Reinhold Miller. Mr. & Mrs. Lorne Genttner with relatives in Toronto and St. Catharines. Rev. & Mrs. Bruce Seebach and family, Kit- chener, with Mrs. Cora Gaiser and members of the family. Personals Betty Guenther, Cindy and Cathy Becker have returned home following a vacation in Hawaii sporting beautiful tans. Mr. & Mrs. Mike Burke and Susan, Brampton, were visitors last weekend with Milt Haugh.
