Stay out of Classroom Continued from front page ween boards and their teachers, whether the teachers are forfeiting their right to further work sanc- tions by returning to classes. A spokesman at the Commission's office in Toronto said Tuesday morning that a request from the Huron teachers asking for a clarification had not been received. Jim Kilgour, a field sources officer with the Commission stated that to his knowledge, no such request had been made. When asked what reaction the Commission would have to such a request, Kilgour said that such information should be first conveyed to the parties concerned and riot to the news media. In the three years which the Commission has operated, a request similar to that of the Huron teachers has not been made, -he stated. In a hypothetical case where teachers had been on strike and then returned to work for one dayKilgoursaid that it would be impossible for him to decide whether the teachers would jeopardize their strike position due 'to the fact that many areas of the legislation which brought the Commission . into existence had not been tested. Kilgour did state that a strike could end without a collective agreement being signed. Friday's meeting between the Board and the teachers was a debacle as the talks broke off less than an hour after they had started. Spokesmen for both sides accused each other of negotiating in bad faith and of returning to the bargaining table only to attempt to sway public opinion. Mrs. Weary described the bargaining session as "a whole lot of nothing." "We felt totally frustrated when we came out of there. We've had some bad sessions before but this one was unreal." E. C. Hill chairman of the Board's negotiating team said that he was disap- pointed at the teacher's negotiating committee. The Goderich trustee leveled a blast at the OSSTF's committee saying "This committee and this board will not be subject to a blackmail, nor will we allow the children of Huron county to be the subject of a ransom Hotel trade slow features exhibits The hotel, restaurant and institutional industry will be presenting their annual trade show, Hostex '78, in Toronto at the Coliseum, Canadian National Exhibi- tion from Sunday, April 23 to Wednesday, April 26. The Ontario Food Council is coordinating the Ministry of Agriculture and Food ex- hibit featuring five producer marketing boards. These are the Ontario Apple Com- mission, Ontario Bean Producers' Marketing Board, Ontario Egg' Producers' Marketing Board, Ontario Grape Growers' Marketing Boajd, and the Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Producers' Marketing Board. Samples of products will be part of the display promotion. The food service industry uses over 25 percent of all food products produced in Canada. Food service sales continue to grow and were estimated to be over $4.6 billion in 1977. Ontario producers have an excellent opportunity to ob- tain an increased share of this market by participating in this show. The show is not open to the general public. However, producer marketing groups who may be thinking of promoting to the hotel, restaurant and institutional industry are encouraged to see the show and visit the Ministry's exhibit at booths 34, 36, 38 and 40. GIVE BLOOD SAVE LIFE demand. We don't happen to think the people of Huron county will accept that." Hill said that the Board -- was willing to give the teachers input "but we're sure as hell not going to get into the situation where our ability to manage is so restricted." After talks broke off the Board released the teacher's 1978-79 contract demands. The board and the teachers are trying to reach an agreement covering this past year's contract plus next year's agreement three teachers in the future will not be realized. The OSSTF is also asking that the Board increase its funding for such things as sabbatical leaves and professional conferences. This would cost the board an additional $70,000 Reeves said. World peace can be achieved, revealed, offered and manifested on earth when the Divine Power of Love replaces the undivine love of power. According to the teachers the salary increase would amount to 10 percent while the board claims it would be closer to 13.2 percent. Teachers will receive a 7.5 percent increase including cost of living increase for this year's contract. For the 1978-79 agreement in addition to resolving the dispute surrounding the number of pupils they will handle during a day, the teachers are asking that the pupil -teacher ratio which is presently between 16.8 and 17.2 be lowered to 17 students per teacher. Fred Reeves, Board's negotiator said that this will not cost the Board anything but it will mean that a projected saving in not having to hire an additional Boost YOUR HOME TOWN It's Good For You GREAT SAVINGS ON CANADIANA MODEL C2D DUAL CONTROL Gas Barbecue • Dual Control • Twin Burners • 20,000 BTU Input on each side of burner • 450 Square inches of Cooking Area • Handles on both sides of lid • LP Gas Cylinder Included • Shelves & Rotis- serie are optional CO-OP'S 95 SPECIAL PRICE Your Canadiana Barbecue is warranteed to be free of defects in materials & workmanship for one year and extended Three -Year Warranty is provided on the "Double -U" Burner.
