MAN BEHIND THE GLASS — Arnold Merner of Zurich has been a man deeply involved in
Zurich athletics for a number of years. One of his duties recently, has been to sell tickets at all
Zurich Flyers home games. Doug Erb, left, is just one of the many people who have done
business with Arnold over the years. Staff photo

Arnold Merner or more
commonly known as Arnie,
has been selling tickets and
taking money for the in-
termediates for five years
now but his association with
Zurich athletics runs for
many more years longer
than this.
A Zurich resident for the
past eight years, Arnold
farmed in neighboring Hay
township for over 45 years
and recently celebrated his
75th birthday with his twin
sister, Mrs. Louella Tieman
of Dashwood.
When not taking money
for the Flyers, Arnold still
comes to the arena to
observe some of the up and
coming Zurich hockey
players. Asked if it was
possible to compare the
hockey players of today to
yester-year, Arnold shook
his head and said it was
something that was prac-
tically impossible to do.
The veteran hockey
observer said that some of
his most memorable
times at the arena were
back in the early fifties
when the arena had been ex-
tensively renovated and the
Zurich intermediates were
playing an excellent brand
of hockey.
The love of hockey has not
been lost on his children as
Bob plays for both the
Zurich Oldtimers and the
Seaforth Oldtimers and
other son Bill plays goal for
the London Oldtimers.
Arena manager Jerry
Rader received much praise
from Arnold as he stated
that the arena manager was
doing "an excellent job."

theme was Love.
Special music consisted of
two solos by Dorothy
Bullock, two duets by

Dorothy Breakey and a
piano solo by Idella Gabel.
Ruby Neeb spoke on the
subject stewardship. Do we
use our time and talents the
way God wants us to or for
our own glory?
The basement was
decorated with posters on
stewardship which were
read by Eileen Consitt.
The program closed with a
hymn. During the business
the ladies were reminded of
the World Day of Prayer in
St. Peter's Lutheran Church
on Friday. The canvassers
for March of Dimes were
thanked and four ladies
volunteered to canvass for
