Many speakers The council of the Bayfield Historical Society met Monday evening in the Archives Room and heard reports from several members. Alex McAllister, program chairman an- nounced that three months of programs had been arranged; namely March 13, Mrs. Myrtle Robinson and Fred Clift would speak on Historical Documents and it was noted that Mrs. Robin- son had made a significant find of historical documents in an attic of the Charles Marks farm which she had recently purchased from John Marks. April 10, Elva Metcalf will speak on the Cameron Family and May 8. Ted Phelps of the University of Western Ontario Archives will be guest speaker. The society is also looking forward to hearing more from Mrs. Muriel Althoff and Mrs. Vivian Morton on Ad- miral Bayfield. It was decided to send out a letter to all members perhaps every three months infor- ming them of the upcoming programs planned and events discussed and ap- proved. Lions musings Bayfield Lions Club members hosted many farmers in the area at its Farmers NigL last Tues- day. Visiting also were members of Wellesley and Zurich Lions Clubs. Follow- ing a delicious dinner served by the Lioness Club. Mrs. Dixie r Douglas 1 Cameron of Lucknow showed many ex- cellent slides and commen- tated on her trip to Australia. New Zealand. North Island and South Island. She gave the audience a glim.pse into far- ming practices, sheep rais- ing. cattle farming and told of the number of acreages needed for particular types of farming. She said that most farms take off at least three crops of hay each year and some take off four. She noted that the temperatures there are the most ideal in the world for farming as they average 62'F. During the evening, Lions president Pat Graham presented a cheque in the amount of $3,000.00 to Com- munity Centre Board treasurer. Gordon Graham to be added to the Arena. On Monday. March 27. the Bayfield Lions Club will visit the Port Sanilac Club in Michigan. Bus arrangements are made and will leave Bayfield at about 4:30 p.m. The Lions Club will be twinned with Michigan next year and this could be the first twinning between A15 and a club in Michigan. March 14 is nomination night for officers for the year 1978-79. March 17 Begorra is the Lioness sponsored 17th of Ireland, St. Patrick's Dance. Two firsts are recorded in the history of the Bayfield Lions Club and that they boast an all time high membership of active members of fifty-one. Niagara trip The Bayfield Ever Young Club met in the Municipal Building on Thursday even- ing. with 21 answering the roll call. President. Harry Baker chaired the meeting. An interesting item read by the president was the minutes of the first meeting and the roll call. showing a membership then (1965) of 50 members. Happy birthday was sung to Mrs. Fern Baker and Mrs. Clara Johnston. The president read the poem "Old Clocks and their Maker". It was approved after a vote to take a bus trip to Niagara in the spring. Following the meeting, euchre was played, with the prize winners as follows: Ladies high, Mrs. Esther Makins, ladies low, Miss Dorothy Cox, men's high, Mr. Reg Wilson, men's low, Mr. George Brown, lone hands. Mrs. Esther Makins. Cancel meeting Trinity Church A.C.W. met Thursday afternoon for its regular meeting at the home of Mrs. Lucy Diehl. Fourteen members answered the roll call. Mrs. Pat Van Patter, the new president presided. The meeting decided to send an Easter gift to its Prayer Partner, Sister Dorothy Dykes in England. Mrs. Edith Smith read from the Study Book "Truth of God Incarnate" and discus- sion followed. Mrs. Jeanne Bennett read the Scripture reading. Hen sal( speaker Mrs. Eric Luther of Hen - sail was guest speaker at the World Day of Prayer service held Friday afternoon in St. Andrew's United Church. She spoke on this years topic, "Community Spirit in Modern Living". During the service, Mrs. Jean Milne favoured with a lovely solo number accom- panied by the organist and choir director, Mrs. Molly Cox. Members of Trinity Anglican. Church Mrs. Jeanne Bennett, Mrs. Edith Smith, Mrs. Pat Van Patter, Mrs. Lillian Higgins and Mrs. Margaret Clift assisted the women of St. Andrew's. Mrs, Jean Dunn, Mrs. Kathleen Siertsema and Mrs. Betty Burch. Mrs. 1 Elaine Dunn and Mrs. Carol Fisher collected the offer- ing. Confined to hospital Best wishes to a former Bayfield boy, Jack Murray who underwent heart sur- gery in University Hospital, London. Reports are that he is progressing quite favourably. Personals Mrs. J.R. Ferguson, Willowdale spent the past two and a half weeks with her sister-in-law, Mrs, G.L. Knight. Mr. and Mrs. Donald R. McLeod of Bayfield and Mrs. Mae McLeod of Clinton were guests of the formers sister, Mrs. Elsie Sullivan in Sparlingsville, Michigan, for the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. E. Walter Erickson visited for the weekend in Port Huron. Michigan. Dr. Michael and Mrs. Bennett, Jeanne, Erin, Martha and Rhys, London visited for the weekend with his parents, Rev. William M. and Mrs. Bennett. Mr. John McLeod return- ed home Sunday after spen- ding the past week in Toron- to as the guest of Charles and Vivian Cooper. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Parker Sr., visited Sunday with their families, the William Parker's in London and the Robert Parker's in Dorchester. Mr. and Mrs. Don Haw returned Tuesday from a two week holiday in Orlan- do, Florida. While there they were guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Riddell. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Fisher, Brian and Bobby, have returned from a delightful vacation in Florida. The family toured Miami and Sarasota where they visited with Larry's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Fisher. They also enjoyed Disneyworld, Cypress Gardens, Sea World and more especially the boys enjoyed the Alligator Farm. They reported that it was nice to go on the trip but it was much nicer to get home. Mr. and Mrs. Rob Irwin and Robbie London spent Thursday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. Walter Erickson, Andrew, Luanne and Lydia and celebrated a double birthday. Mrs. William Vrieze, her husband and young son Billie spent the weekend with the formers parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dalton Smith. Mr, and Mrs. Don Campbell recently returned from an enjoyable vacation in Florida.
