Lent four is variously called "Mid -Lent Sunday", "Refreshment Sunday" — probably from the subject of the Gospel, though some thing from the old practice of feasting on rich cakes and spiced ale on this day, and Mothering Sun- day. The last name is said to have originated in the custom of visiting the mother church of the diocese on this day, and making offerings at the high altar. In some .parts of England it is customary for servants and apprentices living from home to visit their parents on this day and bring them presents. The present often takes the form of what is called a "Mother- ing Cake" Extend invitation An invitation is extended to all women of the Village and area to share in the special service of worship at the World Day of Prayer service to be held Friday at 3 p.m. in St. Andrews United Church.
