WHEN WILL IT GO?
That's the question -that the
many Bayfield and area
residents who hold tickets .in
the Bayfield Lions Club river
breakup contest will be ask-
ing themselves. Putting the
finishing touches on the
barrel that will determine the
river breakup time are Erich
Earl, Ken Knights and BHI
Gemeinhardt of the
Lions. Staff photo

"Fantastic, wonderful,
very enjoyable and most
thoughtiail" were words
described by the Seniors
who attended the Senior
Citizens Night, Saturday
evening in the Community
Centre, sponsored by the
Lioness Club.
A packed community cen-
tre heard Wendy Penhale
read a story entitled "Miss
Dorothy Entertained the
Minister". Lisa Taman ac-
companied by her Mother,
Rose, favoured with step -
dancing; The Bedard Fami-
ly of RR 2, Zurich, Gerard,
Mary Margaret, Charles and
Elizabeth sang, danced and
played musical instruments,
and were a delightful group
of young people. The Cubs
and Scouts each preserdted
skits and the Brownies sang
several numbers. Elmer
Trick .of Clinton in his in-
imitable style, played
several piano solos; Debbie
Siertsema, Step -danced;
Michael Clark sang and ac-
companied himself on the
guitar. The Lions Good Time
Band then lead a sing song of
many old favourites. The
program ended with the
Senior Citizens square dan-
cing with senior President
Harry Baker as the caller
and the Good Time band
providing the music; after
which the Lioness' served a
lovely lunch.
'Club meets
A camp cub meeting was
held Sunday afternoon at the
home of the Assistant
District Commissioner for
Southern Division, Mr. J.
Campbell in Exeter.
Leaders Carol Fisher and
David Renner of Bayfield
attended and one of the
many things accomplished
was the setting up of the
Camps for the coming
season, slated to be held at
Point Farms Provincial
Park, north of Goderich,
Bayfield Boy Scouts and
Cubs attended St. Andrew's
United Church Sunday mor-
ning in honour of Scouting
Week.
Scout Roger McKinley
read the scripture and Scout
Trevor Scotchmer and Cub
Bobby Dunn acted as ushers.
Rev. Reddoch spoke to the
young people in keeping with -
"Thinking Day".
Church News
Sung Mattins was observ-
ed in Trinity Anglican
Church, Sunday morning,
with the Rector, Rev.
William M. Bennett in
charge. Dr. Grosvenor
Shepherd read the Lesson
from Hebrews, for the third
Sunday in Lent.
Sunday next "Mothering
Sunday" will be observed in
Trinity with a combined ser-
vice for members of Trinity
and St. James, Middleton. A
social time will be held after
the service in the Parish
Hall where the con-
gregations will partake of
the specially baked Simnel
cake thus reviving an old
tradition in the Anglican
Communion. Lent four is
variously called "Mid -Lent
Sunday", "Refreshment
Sunday" — probably from
the subject of the Gospel,
though some thing from the
old practice of feasting on
rich cakes and spiced ale on
this day, and Mothering Sun-
day. The last name is said to
have originated in the
custom of visiting the
mother church of the
diocese on this day, and
making offerings at the high
altar. In some .parts of
England it is customary for
servants and apprentices
living from home to visit
their parents on this day and
bring them presents. The
present often takes the form
of what is called a "Mother-
ing Cake"
Extend invitation
An invitation is extended
to all women of the Village
and area to share in the
special service of worship at
the World Day of Prayer
service to be held Friday at
3 p.m. in St. Andrews United
Church. Mrs. Eric Luther of
Hensall will be the guest
speaker.
