Ford Fairmont/Mercury Zephyr- Remember that at
the start of this column, I said there's ,always a but
and that one would be better off not buying a car in its
first year of manufacturing? This car could prove to
be the exception to the rule. A lightweight and
spacious body combined with a proven drivetrain
makes for a car that competes with the traditional
compacts and the new size GM intermediates. One
thing that these cars have going against them are
engines (with the exception of the four cylinder) that
are less economical as compared to the GM engines.
