Among the celebrities taking part were Judy Savoy, Gary Allan Price and Mark Lade of CFPL, Lon- don, Roger A., CKSL radio, London, Mark Hunter of radio station CHOCK, Sarnia, George House, G and H catering, Harold Daniels, Miracle Food Mart, Mary Ann Marozsan, MacDonalds, Gerry Ginn, Huron county warden, Tom Consitt, reeve of Stanley township, John Jewett, reeve of Nutlet township, Earl Ross of stock car driving fame and Doug Thurston representing the OPP and the Forest Rotary club. Staff photo Midgets win two at tournament On January 24/78 the Hensall-Zurich Midgets played host to the Huron Park Midgets, with the midgets coming up with an easy 10-3 decision over the Huron Park club. The Combines took an ear- ly lead in the game and end- ed up with 5-1 lead in the Flyers tie Goderich After taking a three goal lead early in the third period, the Zurich Flyers ended up settling for a tie as the Goderich Merchants scoring three goals in the final ten minutes to tie the game at six all. Goderich scored first but a goal by Ron Desjardine seven seconds later tied the game up. Pat Bedard assisted. The Flyers took a 12-1 lead as Kevin McKinnon found the net with Mike Clarke assisting. Through the second and third periods, Zurich scored four goals after the Merchants had picked up a pair of their own. Two goals by Pat Bedard and single markers by Steve Haberer and Bob Farquhar put the Flyers out in front. Assisting on the goals were Glen Overholt with two, Kim McKinnon, Pete Postill, Marty Becker, Ran- dy McKinnon, Clarke and Rader. Goderich then scored their three goals to tie the game up. The Flyers next game is this Sunday against Hensall. first period. Zurich's goals were scored by Rob Pryde and a pair apiece came from Mike Haggitt and Kerry Bedard. The assists from the first period went to Kevin Parker, Bryan Baker, Dave Vanstone, Steve Grainger, • Bob Mommersteeg and Com- bine's captain Grant Love. In the second period, the Hensall-Zurich squad added two more goals with Bryan Baker and Grant Love lighting the goal lights. Assisting were Rob Pryde, Jeff McKinnon, Steve Grainger and Kevin Parker. During the second period Huron Park added two more goals also. In the final stanza the Combines added three more goals with Jeff McKinnon getting a pair and Steve Grainger with a single goal. Assisting were Bryan Baker, Kevin Parker, Grant Love and Rob Pryde. On Saturday the Combines entered a Ripley Midget Hockey Tournament. The Combines won their first Consitt scores three in tie In a game played at Thed- ford, the Hensall Combines and the home team played to a 6-6 tie Sunday evening. Hensall started the scor- ing with only 44 seconds elapsed in the game as Brian Campbell scored from Bill Chipchase and Gary Kyle. Thedford came back with two goals to jump into a 2-1 lead but with only a few minutes remaining in the first period, Dwight Consitt tied the game up. Rick Ingram assisted. Consitt, who picked up a hat trick in the game, came right back with another goal with a little over a minute elapsed in the second stanza to knot the game at two all. The goal was unassisted. The final goal from Steve Grainger insured the Com- bines of the win with assists going to Steve Grainger and Kerry Bedard. The Combines came up with the short end of 5-2 against Lucknow to eliminate them from the competition. Zurich's both goals were scored by Kerry Bedard and assists went to Bob Mommersteeg, Bryan Baker, Mike Haggitt and Steve Grainger. In their first game, Grant Love, 'and Steve Grainger were named stars of the game. In the game against Lucknow, Kerry Bedard was named a third star.
