Zurich Citizens News, 1978-02-02, Page 3New organist, choir director for church The Congregational meeting of Hensall United Church was held on Wed- nesday evening commencing with a delicious pot luck supper after which Mrs. Grace Drummond conducted a short programme. She, opened by reading a poem "Minister's Dance" which was followed by several Hensall MRS. A. MacGREGOR MRS. HILDA PAYNE selections on the ukeleles played by Mary Drysdale and Melanie Lovell. A humorous skit entitled "The Census Taker" was acted out by Grace Drummond and Mona Alderdice. Rev. Don Beck chaired the annual meeting and used Corinthians I, Chapter 16, verses 5-14 for his devotional. Mrs. Donna St. John was elected secretary for the meeting. A few minutes of silence and prayer was held in memory of those who had passed d -,,'ay during the year. The annual reports were handed out and the chairman of each committee gave Organist honoured Rev. Don Beck conducted service in Hensall United Church on Sunday and the choir sang a trio of anthems with Mrs. Turkheim at the organ. Following the ser- vice, the congregations of Hensall and Chiselhurst assembled in the Fellowship Hall in honour of Mrs. J. Turkheim who has been organist for the past fourteen years. Mr. Doug Mock presented Mrs. Turkheim with -a gift on behalf of the Hensall congregation and Harold Parsons presented 'the gift on behalf of the Chiselhurst congregation. Mrs. Turkheim made a reply thanking all after which a social hour followed and refreshemenbts were ser- ved. Hear of Indian problems Mrs. Russell Erratt, Mrs. Nan Britton, Mrs. Ian McAllister and Mrs. Grace Drummond attended the an- nual meeting of Huron Perth Presbyterial United Church Women January 24 in Mitchell. The guest speaker was Mrs. Jean Eaton, a mis- sionary. Her theme was "How Firm a Foundation". Rev. Bougler spoke on "Indian Concerns of To -Day". Donald Smith from Alcoholics Anonymous spoke on Youth Concerns with Alcoholism and drugs and the prevention. Personals Mrs. Lillian Beer and Mrs. Jack Simmons returned from a holiday in Hawaii. Mr. and Mrs. Don MacLaren, Jodi and Brooke visited over the weekend with Mrs. Lorne Chapman and Mrs, Bertha MacGregor. Mr. and Mrs. George Parker and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne McBride spent a week holidaying at Huntsville. Mr. & Mrs. Harold Knight and Mr. & Mrs. William Fuss are holidaying in Hawaii. information or answered questions. It was announced by the Worship and Mem- bership Committee Chair- man Doug Mock that the new organist will be Dr. Ralph Topp and choir director Mrs. Marianne McCaffrey of Exeter. Hans Gerstenkorn chairman of the Stewardship Committee presented the 1978 Budget which was ac- cepted by the congregation. Cecil Pepper presented the report of the nominating Committee. Hans Gerstenkorn thanked Rev. & Mrs. Beck for a job well done during the year and presented them with a gift on behalf of the congregation. A slide presentation of activities during the year 1977 at both churches was presented by Rev, and Mike Beck. Heating study to be done by council The annual meeting of St. Peter's Lutheran congregation was held at the Church in Zurich on Wed- nesday evening January 25 with Kenneth Baker presiding. After the devotions which included the reading of Acts 9: 1-22 and the singing of "The Church's One Foundation" the pastor showed slides of the ac- tivities and expenditures of the Lutheran Synod of Eastern Canada. These represented ministries to Church camps and college campuses, establishment of new congregations, study and worship publications and training for leadership. Laird Schilbe reported on the year's work of the Church council and Jack Turkheim gave the financial statement for the past year. Herb Klopp reported for the cemetery board, Mrs. Lenora Turkheim and Mrs. Margaret Willert for the Lutheran Church' Women's organization. Doug Deichert and Mrs. Bonnie Keller reported for the Luther League and Youth Com- mittee; Mrs. Lois Thiel for the Sunday Church School, Mrs. Martha Blackwell for the Vacation School and Mrs. Vera Thiel for the Cradle Roll. The nominations to the Church council were made by Earl Schilbe for that committee resulting in Kenneth Baker and Laird Schilbe being elected to a second term of three years, Robert Westlake and Mrs. Leona Rader for a first term. A heating system study is to be completed by the council with recom- mendations to the congregation to be made later this winter. The budget for 1978 was adopted after presentation by Claire Deichert.
