John O'Brien lit the second,
Advent candle at the Advent
II service in Hensall United
Church Sunday morning, Rev.
Don Beck preached on the serm-
on topic "Generations Apart, "
and the choir sang the anthem,
"Shepherds on the Hillside, "
accompanied on the organ by
Mrs. Turkheim. The baskets of
flowers were placed from the
funeral of the late Henry Fuss.
Next Sunday, December 15, at
11 a.m. will be the White Gift
service. The Sunday School
sessions have been cancelled so
that the children may take part
in the service. At 7:30 p.m.
will be a festival of Christmas
music in the form of a Carol
Service.
Carmel women
elect officers
Mrs, Harvey Hyde presided
at the W.M.S. meeting in Car-
mel Presbyterian Church rec-
ently and opened the meeting
with a Christmas wish. Mrs.
Rochus Faber and Mrs. M.
Dougall were in charge of the
Christmas devotional.
The roll call was answered
with a Christmas thought or
verse.
The nominating committee
presented the slate of officers
as follows: president, Mrs.
Harvey Hyde; vice-president,
Mrs. John Soldan; treasurer and
glad tidings secretary, Mrs.
Percy Campbell; supply secret-
ary, Mrs. Harold Bell; friend-
ship and literature secretary,
Mrs. Earl Campbell' associate
members, Mrs. Harry Snell;
Queensway representative, Mrs.
Rochus Faber; pianist, Mrs.
Malcolm Dougall; stamp collec-
tor, Mrs. Rachel Schwalm;
secretary, office yet to be fill-
ed. The January meeting will
be held on January 2, at 2 p.m.
The Ladies Aid meeting was
presided over by president Mrs.
Clarence Volland. Arrange-
ments were made for a wedding
dinner on December 21. The
ladies packed boxes for the shut-
ins on December 11.
Unit 4 of C
hear reports
Unit IV of Hensall U.C.W.
met on December 5 with 21
members present. Mrs. James
McAllister opened the meeting
with scripture, followed by a
story of love of home, love of
a neighbour and love of service.
Prayer followed and hymn 47
was sung. The scripture reading
was taken from Luke and follow-
ed by hymn 51. The devotional,
prepared by Mrs. E. Rowe was
read by Mrs. H. Caldwell.
It dealt with the Advent of
God in the form of Christ- a
man, and the hope of his second
corning.
Mrs. Laird Mickle played two
lovely selections on the piano.
The collection was taken by
the hostesses, Mrs. Shaddick
and Mrs. Purdy, and was dedic-
ated by Mrs. McAllister. Ivirs.
McAllister closed the old year
with odds and ends of informat-
ion on the Bible Society, Foster
Parents plan, Care, Honduras
Relief and gave stories of Christ-
mas of other days by prominent
politicians.

Hensall council clear
decks for new year

Hensall Council met Decemb-
er 9 to attend to business wind-
ing up the year 1974.
Bills and accounts of approx-
imately $70, 000 were ordered
paid. This sum included the
levies from Huron County Board
of Education and the Huron
County levy.
One building permit to install
wash rooms in the Legion Hall
was granted.
Attention was drawn to the
Ausable-Bayfield Conservation
annual meeting to be held Dec-
ember 11. Leonard Erb will be
the delegate to the meeting.
A request from the Town of
Exeter as to whether Hensall
municipality would be interest-
ed in sharing in their Senior
Citizens complex was received.
The clerk was instructed to
get more information about it
and it will be discussed at the
next meeting.
A donation of $25 was approv-
ed for the War Memorial Child-
ren's Hospital, London.
Murray Bell will snow plow at
the dump.
The discussion on the Rich-
mond Street Drain was held
over, as B.M. Ross, P. Eng.,
was not present.
Obituary
CORNELIUS FABER
At University Hospital, Lond-
on, on Friday, December 6,
Cornelius Faber, R.R.3, Exeter,
passed away in his 60th year.
16e was the beloved husband
of the former Jean Sinallacombe.
dear father of Stephen, Waterloo
Mrs. Patrick (Lynn) McCann,
Mt. Carmel; and Patricia,
Guelph; dear brother of Rochus
and Egbert, both of R.R.3,
Exeter. Also surviving is one
grandson.
The late Mr. Faber rested at
the Bonthron Funeral Chapel in
Hensall, where funeral service
was held December 9 with Rev.
Don Beck officiating. Interment
was in Hensall Union Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ken, Ross
and Russell Faber, Ron and Bill
Dougall and Bob Pryde.
