"If you see fit to elect me." Reeve McKinley promised coun- cil, "I am prepared to take on the additional responsibilities." Reeve McKinley, this year chairman of the Board of Man- agement at Huronview, also said that in the future county govern- ment would see additional resp- onsibility heaped upon it, both from the local level and from the provincial government. The third candidate is Mc- Killop Reeve Allan Campbell. He has spent 14 years in munic- ipal politics, six years on county council. He has served on three different committees and was a committee chairman for three and a half years. In a simple appeal to his associates, Reeve Campbell told council he would endeavor to follow in the tradition of previous Huron County Wardens who served well and faithfully. The election of the warden will take place at the first sess- ion of county council in the new year --January 14 in the after- noon. Higher road taxes forecast (by Shfrley J. Keller) Resident of Huron County can look forward to an increase in the 1975 road budget if present indications are correct and chairman of the Huron County Road Committee Joe Dietrich has warned there could conseq- uently be an increase in the mill rate for road purposes in Huron in the new year. "We haven't increased the county monetary share of our budget for four years while most of our costs have increased by 60 per cent and more, " Diet- rich reported to council. "If we are to mount any meaning- ful construction program we must have more money." "We feel sure that some councillors will be disappointed that some particular project is not scheduled as early as they would like or, for that matter isn't listed at all, " the chairrnani went onto report. "We can only say that if sufficient funds were available we could rebuild every gravel county road in the county in the next five years. But since the provincial share is fixed at contributing about 60 percent of the cost toward nine percent of our road construction deficiences each year, the Bowling scores at y urich Lan MEN'S BOWLING LEAGUE, November 26, 1974 Points 0 7 7 0 0 7 7 0 Flyers - Jack Hamilton - 705 Bluewater - Gary Rau - 694 Go -Getters - Louis Willett - 621 Rockets - Jim Bedard - 642 Head Pins - Tony Bedard - 630 Discount Daves - Jack Schade - 667 Wild Bunch - Doug Debus - 628 D.J.'s - Leo Hoffman - 532 HIGH SINGLE - Bill Smith - 344 HIGH TRIPLE - Jim Bedard - 757 HIGH AVERAGE - Tony Bedard - 211 SENIOR MIXED BOWLING LEAGUE, Varieties - Mary Laporte - 722 Whippoorwills - Bob Horner - 690 Hawkeyes - Tony Bedard - 559 Hi Hopes - Clair Geiger - 554 HIGH SINGLE - Claire Geiger - 309 HIGH TRIPLE - Claire Geiger - 802 Total Points 39 36 46 39 30 51 37 30 5 November 28, 1974 7 40 0 09 7 38 0 40 MAPLE LEAF 1/2 LB Sockey r Salmon 8 OZ PACK Cheese Slices CULVERHOUSE 19 OZ Creamed Coni 14 OZ Van Camps Beans LUX 2's 24 OZ Liquid For Dishes 48 OZ TIN Aliens Fruit Drinks 2 LB TUB Brown Bear Honey SPAGHETTI or 2 LB PACK Splendor Macaroni 12" ROLL Foil `q r', ij Aka Foi r° p y Apples $1009 55' 2/73 3/$1 $L29 2/894 $1.59 59 39C 49 3LBS 49 LUCKY DOLLAR FOOD MARKT PHONE 236-4316 - ZURICH county would have to raise the balance at the local level." "In other words, many proj- ects would be completed without a provincial contribution and would require us to raise an additional 12 million dollars over the next five years or 2.4 million per year, " the chair- man said. "This is more than three tunes the amount we levy now and would increase our road levy to 43.3 mills from the present 10 mills --obviously not practical or possible." Long range plans for road construction and resurfacing were presented to council as well as a forecast of bridge construct- ion. All were approved by members. Top priority for road construc- tion was County Road 19 bet- ween Ethel and Highway 86 for a distance of six miles ($360, 000 estimated cost); County Road 30 between Lakelet and Clifford for a distance of 5.6 miles ($300, 000); and County Road 1 between Beruniller and Carlow for a distance of 3.5 exiles ($275, 000). The first three items on a long resurfacing list are County Road 25 between Highway 21 and Carlow (3 miles - $88, 000); County Road 5 from Mount Carmel westerly (5 miles - 1/2 of $320, 000 as it is a boundary road); and County Road 1 from Carlow to Lucknow (14.5 miles - $360, 000).
