UNITED CHURCH NOTES
Timothy Rowcliff lit the First
Advent Candle at the celebrat-
ion of the Lord's Supper in Hen-
sall United Church Sunday morn-
ing. The choir sang the anthem
"Watchmen, tell us of the night:
and Rev Don Beck preached on
the sermon topic "Invaded from
Outer Space." The baskets of
flowers placed in the church
were from the funeral of the
late Mrs. Cornish of Brucefield.
Once again this, year, the Girl
Guides have provided the church
with two potted poinsettias for
the Christmas season.
87TH BIRTHDAY
Mrs. Daisy Ivey, who makes
her home with Mrs. Rachel
Schwalm, celebrated her 87th
birthday on November 29 with
ten neighbours and friends
attending including Mrs. Reta
Robb and Mrs. Winn Joliffe of
Lucan and Mrs. Margaret
Coombs, of Clinton. A lunch-
eon and tea served with a
birthday cake and candles lit
was enjoyed. Mrs. Ivey also
went to Sarnia on Saturday for
the day with her son and his
wife, Mr. and Mrs. Desmond
Ivey. They also had a family
get-together with their son
Anthony and wife and their son,
who is Mrs. Ivey's great grand-
son, all of Elnora, New York.
Also Mrs. Ivey's great grand-
daughter Dawn Brass, of Mont-
real, was present.
Mr. Harry Fuss is a patient
in South Huron Hospital, Exeter.
Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Van
Dyke and Agnes of Bradford
visited Saturday with Mr. and
Mrs. Sim Roobal.
Obituary
MRS. JOHN CORNISH
Mrs. John K. Cornish, 86,
of Brucefield, passed away in
Stratford General Hospital,
November 22, 1974.
A life-long resident of Bruce -
field, she was the former Jennie
Hill, a daughter of the late Mr.
and Mrs. George Hill, of Bruce -
field. She was married to John
Cornish in 1919. Mr. and Mrs.
Cornish had planned to mark
their 55th wedding anniversary,
November 20.
She was a member of Bruce-
field United Church, and was
active in the United Church
Women. She was a life-long
member of the Ladies Auxiliary
of Clinton Branch of the Legion.
Surviving are her husband, a
daughter Mrs. Roy T. (Anna)
Brock, of Hensall, and a son
J. Carlyle Cornish of Queens-
ville, and four grandsons.
The late Mrs. Cornish rested
at the R,S. Box Funeral Horne in
Seaforth, where funeral service
was held November 25 with
Rev. E.D. Stuart officiating.
Burial was in Baird's Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Allan Hill,
Murray I-Iill, Robert McGregor,
William Caldwell, Ivan Wight -
man and Arthur Alexander.
Flower bearers were Dwayne
Cornish, Douglas Cornish, Orl-
and Johnston and Adani Wilson.
AMBER REBEKAHS
Noble Grand Mrs. Margaret
Consitt presided at the meeting
of Amber Rekekah Lodge rec-
ently and was assisted by the
Vice Grand, Mrs. Bertha Mc-
Gregor. Members of Emerald
Lodge in Parkhill, were guests,
also Brother William Bannister
DIGM., who were welcomed by
the Lodge members.
The Noble Grand reported on
the meeting held in Clinton
when the officers for the arrang-
ing of the "United Nations Youth
Contest" were appointed. The
Vice Grand reported for the
visiting committee.
Mrs. Olga Chipchase R.S,N.G
reported on the Rally held in
Stratford recently, stating it was
the most gratifying rally held so
far. The charter of the Lodge
will be draped in the near future
in loving memory of Sister Nora
Brunner, past president of the
Rebekah Assembly of Ontario,
at the request of the Assembly
president,. Sister Grace Love.
Thank you notes were read
from Brother Ralph Yager,
Welland, and Mrs. Lillian
Blackwell. Arrangements were
made for the Christmas party
to be held on December 4, and
to forward the usual donations
to the home at Barrie and to the
Children's Aid.
Greetings were extended to
the Noble Grand and members
by William Bannister, D. D. G.M
of Parkhill, and also by Noble
Grand Mrs. Donna Hodgins.
Following the meeting bingo
euchre was played and a social
hour was enjoyed by all.
CLUBS ENTERTAIN
On December 1, the Hensall
Kinsmen and Kinettes put on a
Christmas party for the Hensall
town children at the Public
School. Mr, Magician and
Santa Claus were in attendance
to mystify and entertain a large
crowd of both children and their
parents.
Sunday, December 8, is the
day set aside for shut-in visits
in Hensall and the nursing hone.
On Tuesday, December 17, will
be the annual visit to the Queen-
sway Nursing Home to sing
Christmas carols and hand out
treats.
News of Hurooview
The Clinton Christian Ref-
orm Choir of forty voices led
by Mr. De Roan provided spec-
ial musical numbers for the
Sunday evening song service.
The music had been prepared
for the 25th anniversary of
the church. Mr. Ralph Schur -
man has been appointed to lead
the song service for the coming
year.
Marie Flynn, Lorne Lawson,
Norman Speir and Jerry Collins
provided the old tynie music fog
Monday afternoon's program.
Assisting with the activities
were volunteers fromthe Christ-
ian Reform Church and Mrs.
Hulley. Earl and Martha Hey-
wood of Wingham visited the
