MR. AND MRS. STEPHEN DURAND
St. Boniface Roman Catholic Church, Zurich was the setting
for the wedding of Janet Marie Masse to Stephen Orland Durand,
on November 9, at 2 p.m. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Clare Masse, R. R.3, Zurich and the groom's parents are
Mr. and Mrs. Philip Durand, R.R.2, Zurich. Mrs. Elaine
Beauchamp, sister of the bride was matron of honour, and brides-
maids were, Marlene Durand, Karen Durand, sisters of the groom,
and Brenda Masse, sister of the bride. Denise Durand, London,
niece of the groom, was flower girl and Kevin Masse, brother of
the bride, was ringbearer. Joe Durand, London, brother of the
groom was best man, and Rick Masse, Mike Masse, brothers of
the bride, and Dan Durand, brother of the groom, were the
groomsmen. Gerard Masse and Dave Durand ushered the guests.
After a wedding trip to Montreal, the young couple will reside
at R.R.2, Zurich,
News of Varna area

The United Church Women
met in the basement of the
church on Thursday evening.
Mrs. Mervyn Hayter opened
the meeting with a study on
one of the women of the Bible,
Esther." The devotional period
was opened by the singing of
hymn "I am Thine, 0 Lord, "
The offering was taken up by
Mrs. Mervyn Johnson and ded-
icated by Mrs. Bill Taylor,
Mrs. Ida McClinchey read the
scripture from Ephesians. A
reading on Strength for Building
was given by Mrs. Doug Mc -
Ash.
The business meeting was
opened by minutes being read
by Mrs. Gordon Johnston and
the roll call was answered by
19 members. There were 21
calls made to the sick and
shut-in during the month of
October.
Mrs. Mervyn Hayter gave
the treasurer's report. Mrs.
Ida McClinchey read the
correspondence. It was decid-
ed to have a Christmas concert
this year with Mrs. Bill Ches-
sell, Mrs. Torn Consitt and
Mrs. Doug McAsh in charge.
It was decided to give $25
to the Children's Aid Society.
A report was made by Mrs.
Mervyn Hayter on the Presbyter
ial at Egmondville at which
Mrs. Emily Marquis of Depart-
ment of Stewardship Services,
Toronto was guest speaker.
Mrs. Louis Taylor read a
letter and sermon from Rev.
Royal of Goderich on the theme
of "Remembrance Day." Mrs.
Taylor closed the meeting by
reading, "In Flanders Fields."
Lunch was served by hostesses
Mrs. Bill McAsh, Mrs. Bill
Dowson and Mrs. Harold Dow -
son.
It was decided later to have
a pot luck supper at 6:30 on
Wednesday. December 4, and
to bring a friend.
After the Remembraince Day
Service in the church, a short
service was held at the cenot-
aph with Anson McKinley plac-
ing the wreath for the Township
Harvey Hayter placed the
wreath for the Legion and
Charles Reid , for the Orange
Lodge.
EXPLORERS
There are nine explorers
this year with Sharon Chuter
and Joyce Taylor as .leaders.
The officers for the year are
as follows: president, Luanne
Taylor, secretary, Sherri Tay-
lor. At one meeting, there was
a Hallowe'en party. At the
last meeting, they started
learning about the Bible and
started crafts.

Mr, and Mrs. Luther, of
Hensall led this Sunday evening
song service sponsored by the
South Huron Christian Women's
Club.
Thirty residents from the
ground floor north and the centr
area were guests on Tuesday
evening of the Clinton Kinettes,
The event was held in the
Clinton Public School and incl-
uded an evening of games with
dessert and coffee. The kinette;
have adopted the residents
from these two areas as grand-
mothers and they are entertain-
ed several times during the yea'
by the club.
The over -90 club rnet on
Wednesday afternoon in the
first floor north sitting room.
Twenty-six members were able
to attend and enjoyed a short
program consisting of a sing
song, readings by Mrs. Me-
Gratton and piano instrumentals
by a guest of the club, Mrs.
McAsh. Members of the Walk-
erburn Club and individual
volunteers assisted with activit-
ies and helped to serve tea and
cookies provided by the kitch-
en staff.
Mr. and Mrs. Edgar, of At-
wood, arranged the "Family
Night" program with Rev.
Thomas introducing the numb-
ers and giving two readings.
Lawrence Edgar and Viggo
Sorenson played several violin
selections accompanied at the
piano by Mrs. Edgar. Coleen
Edgar displayed some fine
step dancing accompanied by
her parents and the entertainers
were thanked by Mrs. Hull

Mr. Cochrane replied that
pension and other benefits are
paid directly to the days for
which a teacher receives his
salary and under government
regulations these benefits are
lost when the salary is not paid.
Mr. Cochrane spoke of the
conflict between board policy
and the salary agreement as
the reason for clarifying the
board's policy.
Mr. Hill said the board will
have to be more definitive on
special leave when contract
talks are next discussed.
