Mr. McCoy is director of Development of Community Services for the Mentally Retarded with the Minist- ry of Community and Social Services. Over 200 people attend- ed the opening ceremonies and toured the building afterwards Large crowds attend Anniversary services (by Committee in charge) Preparation for celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Euunanuel United Church were begun early this year with the formation of a special commit- tee, whose able chairman is Wayne Ilorner. It was the feel- ing of committee and congreg- ation alike that Anniversary Sunday should and would be the big day. No one was dis- appointed. The Lord smiled upon us from a big beautiful blue sky; the special music provided by "The Watchmen" was very special. Our guest speaker, Dr. Churchill had messages of the Good News; and the over -flow crowd came from far and near. The noon meal, provided by the congregation and served by the Lutheran Ladies, at the Community Centre, gave opp- ortunity for fellowship and was enjoyed by everyone who came, To quote Rev. Guy- " I can't remember anytime in my life being in church for so long, and enjoying every minute of it ! " As this year's president of London Conference, and pres- ently serving St. Andrew's United Church in Chatham, we were indeed privileged to have Dr. Allen Churchill's ministry on this occasion. The first special day of our 100th anniversary year was an outdoor Pentecost worship serv- ice, which was concluded with a picnic, satisfying the spiritual and physical needs of those who came. The Memorial Sunday was highlighted with music by an old time choir, and a message of hope from a former minister Rev. C.B. Heckendorn. On Bean Festival Sunday, Rev. John Huether, of Grand Valley, and former minister at Zurich, urged us to be forward lc;, king, and Miss Helen Videar of Goderich inspired with vocal solos. In our variety of life's exp- eriences, marriage plays an important part; thus, Brides and Grooms Sunday was the special event of September. A London Chaplain, Rev. Charles Scott shared in a very real way, his thoughts on this subject. The "Men of AChord" quartet, of Kitchener, one of whom was a groom of Emtnanuel Church, provided inspiration in song. The "wedding reception" which followed, provided unique fellowship with a glass of punch and a sandwich. One of the "brides" was thrilled when looking through one of the mar- riage registers, she found the names of her parents. Rev. Gordon Geiger, of Essex, whose father Rev. Roy Geiger grew up in this congreg- ation, spent an evening in early October showing slides of a trip to Europe and the Middle East which he experienced in February of this year. The pred- icament of Arab Refugees was the particular concern he shar- ed with us. From the joy of Anniversary Sunday we look forward to the occasions which will conclude the year. An evening with a native son, Dr. Ralph Krueger, who will speak about "An Environ- mental Ethic, " promises chall- enge. The Belgrave"Men's Choir have a reputation which will fill the church on the evening of December 1.
