LEGION AUXILIARY Hensall Legion Ladies Auxiliary meeting was held on Tuesday evening in the Legion Hall, with president Wanda McClinchey presiding. Past president Mildred Chalmers installed a new member, Joan Allan. Iva Reid presented past president Mildred with a gift in appreciation for her actingThe as president for two years. Members decided to help can- vass for the CNIB, and also decided to have the money doll draw sometime in Decem- ber. ST. PAUL'S ANGLICAN St. Pauls Anglican Church was beautifully decorated with fruits, vegetables and flowers for the service of Harvest Thanksgiving. The Rev. G.A. conducted the service, The theme of the sermon was "Thanksgiving." Mrs. Roland McCaffery of Exeter sang "Bless this house" and "Abide with me." The St. Paul's orchestra played before the service, and also led in the singing of the familiar Thanks- giving hymns . Following the service lunch was served by the young people of the church, UNITED CHURCH NOTES Mrs. Shirley Luther was the guest soloist at Hensall United Church Sunday morning for the World Wide Communion serv- ice. She sang a solo accomp- anied on the piano by her hush- and Eric, who along with Mrs, Norma Pryde shared the piano and organ during the service, t..:, L•' , , ,.,1 - 1 ::L:dt � ° ,�.; ,..^I Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Slade were welcomed into full membership in the Hensall congregation. Rev. Don Beck preached on the sermon topic "Communion; Presentation, Participation, Proclamation, " Sunday, Oct- ober 13,will be the Thanksgiv- ing services both at Hensall United and Chiselhurst United Churches. UNIT IV OF UNITED WOMEN Unit IV, Hensall United Church Women, met on Octob- er 2 with 24 members present. Mrs. James McAllister, who chaired the meeting, opened with Psalm 19. Miss Amy Lam- mie read the Scripture from Luke and Mrs. Tont Sherritt commented on the devotional which she closed with a Thanks- giving poem and prayer. Mrs. C. Britton and Mrs. Eric Luther brought interesting excerpts from the' fall regional meeting held in Dashwood on October 2. offering was taken by Mrs. Dowson and dedicated b Mrs. Y McAllister. Mrs. Tont Sherritt gave the treasurer's report. Arrangements were trade by Mrs. Earl Rowe for the lunch for the general meeting.Vol- unteer helpers and pimakers for the October 1ri banquet were arranged. Ilyutn 390 was sung and lunch was served by ,., ...... .. the hostess, Mrs. Dawson, and the committee in charge. LEARN HOW TO PACK The third meeting of Hensall ' I,4 -H Club was held on Octob- er 1, at the United Church. )?resident Nancy McCurdy open- ed the meeting with the 4-11 Pledge. Seven members were present to answer to the roll call which is the type of refer- ence file they have chosen. Dues were paid up and various other business was discussed. A joint demonstration on pack- ing suitcases was done. Home assignments for the next meet- ing are to work on record book and reference file, also to find something which you think would be interesting to discuss at the next meeting. a Genera! n1eetin The October thank offering meeting of Hensall UCW was held Monday evening in the church. Anita Cook acted as chairman and welcomed every- one. Sue Ann Schroeder, of Dash- wood entertained by singing two lovely solos and accomp- anying herself on her guitar. Lois Shapter presented a very meaningful devotional discuss- ., _ ing three little words, kindness, friendliness and sympathy, words which are not used in our society enough these days. Several hymns were sung with Helen Goddard accompanying on the piano. Grace Drummond gave a "A Shadow on the blind, " and introduced the guest speaker, Mrs. Betty Cardno of Seaforth who showed very colourful slides and com- merited very thoroughly on her ,trip in March of this year to Mexico. President Kay Mock presided for the business portion of the meeting, and opened with a Thanksgiving poem. Minutes of the May meeting were read and approved. Correspondence was read which consisted of two letters of thanks, one from Chiselhurst UCW, and the other from Jane Davidson in appreciation for the donation setn to Father Abraham in India. Helen Scane gave the treas- urer's report, and Pearl Erratt reported for the supply and welfare committee and announ- ced that there will be a bale packed on October 22. Articles are to be left at the church be - fore this date.
