Let's talk
about hockey
(with Rec. Director Art Hoy)
Fall is the time of year when
the roller skates and baseball
bats are set aside and the skates
and hockey sticks are brought
out of the moth balls.
With Team Canada taking on
the Russians for another exciting
series bockey will be in the
fore front starting this month in
Canadian Sport.
This is just a friendly remin-
der for any of the mothers and
fathers in the area who are int-
erested in helping the Zurich
Minor Athletic Association with
Minor Hockey in any way such
as transportation to away games,
coaching, managing etc. to
contact me at the arena either
in person or by phone at 236-
4969, so I can relay this infor-
mation to the Athletic Associat-
ion for their assistance.
A meeting will be held in the
latter part of September of
which all interested parties
should attend. A further notice
in the Citizen's News will tell
the time and place. Like the
sing says at the arena "Bring
your boy to the arena and stay
and watch him play this winter,
and help minor hockey while
helping the young youths of the
village.

Federation official defends
egg marketing
The Canadian Egg Market-
ing Agency (CEMA) is failing in
its job because too many people
simply don't want to see the
two-year-old agency work,
an executive member of the
Ontario Federation of Agricult-
ure charged Thursday night.
Delmer Bennett of Renfrew
told about 75 members of the
Huron County Federation of
Agriculture that business and
government leaders don't want
the farmer to receive a fair
return for his labors.
CEMA is under fire from
Beryl Plumptre, chairman of
the Food Prices Revier Board,
and the newly -appointed con-
sumer and corporate affairs
minister, Andre Ouellet in its
contention that egg prices are
"unnecessaryily high" and that
the board's operation is "A
mess."
Mr. Bennett said that while
interference from government
and business leaders may suc-
ceed in temporarily keeping

long-term effect of such act-
ion wilibe to raise food prices
drastically.
"The consumer doesn't seem
to realize he will only get
cheap food for a short time.
When farmers are forced out of
business because of low incomes
we will be forced to import
food and that will make prices
skyrocket."
The OFA executive member
was filling in as a speaker for
federation president Gordon
Hill who was in Ottawa for
talks with CEMA officials and •
federal agriculture minister
Eugene Whelan.
Mr. Bennett said he sees no
simple solutions to the conflict
between CEMA and government
leaders who claim they are
acting on behalf of the consum-
er.
"But its the OFA's job to
stand behind CEMA now as
strongly as we can, " he said.
Mr. Bennett said it is not the
farmer's responsibility to prey-

rov—
ide food as cheaply as possible
to prevent hardship for pension-
ers and other persons on fixed
incomes.
"It's society's responsibility
to provide these people with
their welfare cheques, their
pensions and unemployment
insurance," he said.
He complained that food

He said the consumer "is

quality of food is high and the
prices are among the best in
the world."
