A NATIONAL GENERAL PICTURES RELEASE change has taken place; a considerable beach area has been built up by the use of gabion baskets as groynes. It proved so successful in its year of study that adjoining property owners have installed gabions. All speakers agreed that erosion is very serious. A feasability study was urged before anyone should carry out an erosion program on their own. This is to determine the length, and depth of groynes which could be the answer. Breakwaters were suggested for some areas; but one thing was very clear, anything that man does has an effect that hedoes not anticipate; isolated attempts at combating erosion are no good. It was stressed by all speakers that cottagers or home builders should built long distances back from any cliff etc., where erosion might possibly occur. Since gabions are a very expensive project; up to $3, 000 for a 100 foot gabion, it is advisable to have an engineer check you locality first before spending good money in anticipation of a beach, which very well might not happen. 0 Varna Varna anniversary service will be held on September 22 at which the Sellwood's Gosp- el Singers, of Toronto are tak- ing the service.
