Roll call was to bring something from the garden for a penny sale. This was not only interest- ing but added to our treasury. Mr:. Irvin Rader discussed the motto, "There is more to wise shopping than to be first at the bargain table.11 Guest speaker, Miss Jane Pengilley, home economist for South Huron, spoke on the Metric System. She stressed that one be not afraid of it but to take it step by step. Mrs. Sid Baker read a paper on nut- rition. Mrs. Gordon Bender, presid- ent, dealt with the business. The leaders for 4-H, Mrs. Ray Rader, Mrs. Earl Keller, Mrs. Gordon Bender, Pat Bender, Mrs. Ernest Miller and Mrs. Delmar Miller. They have attended training school at Exeter and invite any interested girl to contact them. The new club is "The Club Girl Entertains. " Several invit- ations were accepted. The institute has the birthday party at Huronview September 18. The Huron County Historical will hold their meeting in Dashwood September 23. Lunch and The Queen brought the meeting to a close. Miss Susan Fische- of the Dashwood 4-H Clubs was chos- en to attend 4-11 events at Lon- don Western Fair. Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Rader and Mr. and Mrs. Dave Rader were supper guests with Mr. and Mrs, Fred Miller, Brenda, Charlotte and Karen, on Wed- nesday, September 4, on the occasion of Karen's 4th birthday Wendy and Michelle Webb, Kitchener, spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Howard Datars and family. Mrs. Louis Higinell and Mr. and Mrs. Wilhem Cuelden- stubbe, St. Catherines, spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Rader and Darlene. Mrs. Higinell, a former past- or's widow, renewed acquaint- ances with members of Zion Lutheran church. Mr. and Mrs. Sid Baker and BAYFIELD Mr. and Mrs. Harold Murrey were thrilled on Saturday to have her cousin, Mr. and Mrs. John Williamson, whom she had never inet, visit with them from near Glasgow, Scotland. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hart and Mr. and Mrs. John Cummings all of Clinton were also pres- ent for the afternoon and enjoy- ed tea and luncheon with their relatives. Bishlkt feeding experiment A bushlot feeding experiment conducted through last winter at the Kemptville College of Agricultural Technology has demonstrated the ability of Holstein steers to withstand winter conditions when no hous- ing is available. Graham Hoop- er, head of the Livestock Prod- uction Section of the College, states: "We knew that Holstein steers performed well in our feedlot facility, and we were anxious to see if they were cap- able of making acceptable weight gains in the bush." Three groups, each of 12 cattle, were used in the exper- iment, conducted from late October until the cattle were ready for shipping. Two groups were in separate bushlots with only a thick cedar bush for cover. The third group was fed in an open -fronted pole barn on the campus.
