Steven recently was one of over 1300 boys from across Ontario, who attended the camp this summer. BUY NOW - PAY LATER The old slogan was "Buy now --pay later." Today, it's "Buy now --save later." In reality this is not a slogan. Nor is it a fact. But it could be a very good bet. According to the fourth edit- ion of the Canadian Consumer Credit Factbook, the price of consumer durable goods has so far been the least affected by the inflation we have been exp- eriencing. Between 1967 and 1973, durable goods' prices have advanced by only 8.2'o. Compare that with the semi - durable goods' price increase of 16.8'o, the non -durable goods' price change of 33.401, and the even bigger price change of 39.25 for consumer services. But those data are descript- ive of what happened up to 1973. The question is, what will happen in the future? ,Ifi guaii' Sirloin Ste k LB1 Gran y d Chick LB 1 5 Ib. PHONE 236-4312 - ZURICH Control warbles "Control warbles in your cattle now for increased prof- its later, " recommends R. E, Macartney, an Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food live- stock specialist. "Returns from animals not infested by warbles are greater because they gain faster than affected animals, " he explains. Successful treat- ment can mean an extra $15 to $20 return from each calf and yearling raised on pasture, and $10 return for every $1 spent on the treatment of feed- lot cattle. In addition, proces- sors pay more for meat and hides undamaged by warbles. "The buzzing of warbles laying their eggs on the hairs of the legs and undersides of cattle causes them to run madly or gad, " Mr. Macartney continues. This may reduce a cow's milk flow as much as 2.5 pounds a day and weaning weights maybe reduced as a result. In addition, gadding increases the risk of physical injury to cattle and damage to fences. Systemic insecticides to control the warble should be applied from September to November so the life cycle of the crub is interrupted at the correct time. They should neve]. be applied from Decem- ber to February because the grub are in the gullet or spinal cord then and treatment can cause undesirable side effects.
