He Time to reap garden benefits If you've' put a lot of work into your garden.this year--. preparing the soil, fertilizing, planting, watering, weeding -- your reward is in sight. , "The end of the summer • growing season is the time to .reap the benefits of your labor, " says J.K. Hughes, horticultural specialist with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and food. By planting early -and late - maturing varieties, companion cropping or successive plantings, many gardeners willhavea good supply of fresh vegetables. "Quite often, however, later plantings catch up with earlier ones, so uou have an 'overabun- dance' at harvest tirne, " Mr. Hughes says. •"By taking adv- antage of this --freezing and preserving beans, peas, corn and other vegetables --you'll have delicious produce for the winter months."
