The Zurich Mets wound up
their regular schedule in 1-luron-
Perth Baseball League action
last week, with a tie and two
losses, giving theta fifth place
in the six -team grouping.
They tied Arva 11-11, and lost
to Thorndale 10-3 and Arva
12- 0.
Ending up in a tie with Arva
was a big disappointment for
the local crew, as they held
a 9-4 lead going into the sixth
inning. Arva sent seven runners
across the plate in the disast-
rous frame, and then Zurich
came back with two snore in
their half to tie the count at
11-11.
A highlight of the game for
the locals was a grand slant
homer by Ken Clarke in the
first inning, with two out and
two strikes. Ron Corriveau
also homered for the Mets in
BROWNIE
in fifth position
the fifth, with nobody on base.
Zurich picked up a total of
eight hits in the six -inning
contest, with Clarke also pick-
ing up a single with his homer..
Rich Schilbe banged out a
double and a single, while Paul
Charrette carne through with a
double, Gerard tharrette and
Glen Overholt both singled for
the Mets.
Against Thorndale Angels,
errors proved to be the downfall
of the local crew as they corn-
itted six costly miscues. Dick
Bedard, on the mound, carne
up with a real good -effort in
giving up 10 scattered hits, but
the errors were too much to
cover up for.
Two players, Dick Bedard
and Paul Charrette, carne
through with two hits each,
while Percy Bedard and Glen
Overholt both banged out

The worst loss of the season
for the Mets came on Sunday
afternoon when they were 'swam-
ped 12-0 by Arva in the final
game of the schedule. Zurich
managed only two base hits
throughout the nine -inning
affair --both singles by Glen
Overholt. Meanwhile Arva was
pounding out a total of 13 base
hits off the offerings of Aubrey
and Dick Bedard.

Open playoffs in
Zurich next
Tuesday night
The regular schedule in Hur-
on -Perth Baseball has been
completed, and the teams now
head into the playoffs. During
the season, Clinton ended up in
first place with 36 points; Arva
second with 30; Thorndale third
with 18; Exeter fourth with 16;
Zurich fifth with 10; and Dash-
wood sixth with four.
Dashwood and Zurich will
now play a best -of -seven play-
off series for the right to adv-
ance into OBA playdowns, with
the first game scheduled for
next Tuesday night in Zurich,
at 6 p.m. The winner will ad-
vance into the D playoffs of the
OBA.
Meanwhile the other four
teams will play off for the right
to advance into the C category
of the OBA playoffs.

Sports fans will have plenty
of action to watch when Dash-
wood hosts their annual Frieds-
burg Days celebration on Aug-
ust 2 and 3.
Friday night, the Corbett and
Zurich pee wees tangle in a
softball contest, while on
Saturday, the Zurich rec league
all-stars will battle with the
Lieury club in a fastball game.
Two of the features which
proved so popular last year are
back on the agenda. The tug-
of-war contest will be held
along with the arm wrestling
competition,
The Mt. Cannel team have
their entry in top shape to def-
end the tug-of-war title.
Last year's arm wrestling
champs are also ready to take
on all comers, Stan Haist,
Lawrence Becker and Robert
Miller won the three divisions
in 1.973.
