Oversize tires distort the
speedometer reading. It will be
lower than true speed.
Best way to avoid overheating
is to reduce speed. When car is
weighed down with luggage,
beach chairs and other
summer paraphernalia, hold
speed to 50 mph. maximum.
If car won't start - or is hard to
start and runs poorly - it may
be due to badly burned, ox-
idized or dirty distributor
points. They're easy and inex-
pensive to replace.
Air pressure should be checked
when tires are cool.
Auto sales are nearly a million
a month, and density is ex-
pected to reach one car for
every two people.

(From the Alrnaguin News)
A son of Mrs. M,R. Rennie,
G,C. (Sam) Rennie, principal
of the Sundridge Junior Public
School, has retired from teach-
ing after 40 years of service.
Mr. Rennie, born in Hensall,
started his long professional
career in September 1934,
corning to Sundridge in 1937 as
principal of a three-room
school, and has held that posit-
ion until his retirement this
year,
He has seen the education
develop and grow in Sundridge
with the school being enlarged
to eight rooms with a teaching
staff of ten.
While teaching was his bus-
iness, Mr. Rennie has displayed
a keen interest in sports, the
church, and service club activ-
ities, and become an integral
part of the community over
the years.
In the early days he was an
outstanding hockey player, and
at one time played for the
Powassan Hawks, also with the
Sundridge Beavers. While
playing with the Beavers he
played on three Ontario Inter-
mediate Championship teams.
He has also been active as a
coach and referee in local
minor hockey.
Baseball, another of Mr,
Rennie's favourite sports, saw
him playing for the South River
Bears for five or six years.
While playing with the Bears
he played on a North-Eastern
Championship in 1940. "I sure
had lots of fun playing with the
Bears, " Sam told the News,
as he reminisced.
Sam, as he is locally known
throughout the district, tool< an
active part in service organiz-
ations, being a Past President
of the Sundridge Lions Club,

the elderly will be provided
with an opportunity to contribute
some of their knowledge, exper-
ience, and advice for the bene-
fit of the community.
Presently, a temporary Mech-
anology Centre has been establ-
ished in McKinley's former
campaign headquarters. The
centre is equipped with a comp-
uter terminal, since one of the
immediate aims of the project is
to create a computer program
containing information collected
this summer. Hopefully, in the
future, this inforrhation will
be made available to tourists,
and other persons using the
Mechanology Centre.

has toured extensively with the

During April this year, form-
er members of the band sponsor-
ed a "Sam Rennie Night" to pay
tribute to their leader who had
donated to much of his time
and energy to the community.
One other activity, little
known outside of the village
of Sundridge, is that Mr. Ren-
nie was the leader of the United
Church Choir for 25 years.
When asked whathe planned
to do on retirement, Sam said
he would continue to live in
Sundridge at his home on Main
Street which fronts on Lake
Bernard, and also he felt he
would like to travel a little,
