Zurich Mets down Dashwood
The Zurich Mets bit the win
column in Huron -Perth Base-
ball League action last Friday
night when travelling to Dash-
wood and upset the pennant
winning Tigers 8-5 under the
lights. Zurich picked up two
runs in the fourth, three in the
sixth, one in the seventh and
two more in the eighth.
In posting their first victory
of the season, the locals smash-
ed out a total of 11 hits, and
also picked up nine bases on
balls. Two men were hit by the
pitcher.
John Mommersteeg pitched
excellent game for the Mets
until the seventh inning when
he hit the first batter, walked
the next and delivered a home -
run pitch to the third man up
to bat. After getting the next
batter to ground out, he walked
two more in a row, and at this
point Dick Bedard came on in
relief. After walking the batter
to face him, Bedard came on
strong to get the next two batt-
ers. He gave up only two hits
in the last two innings, while
striking out four.
Up until he ran into trouble
in the seventh, Mommersteeg
came up with an outstanding
effort, giving up only three
hits, while he struck out seven.
He gave up only one base oa
balls until the seventh.
Bill Schade went the route for
Dashwood and was pounced on
for a total of 11 base hits. He
also walked nine and hit two
batters.
Rich Schilbe led the Zurich
hitting barrage with two doubles
and a single, while Gerard
Charrette, Glen Overholt and
Percy Bedard all came through
with two safeties. Aubrey
Bedard clouted out a double
and Mommersteeg a single to
round out the Mets offensive
attack.
For the Tigers Hartman came
through with two safeties, with
Bill Schade, Eugene Guenther
and Bob Hoffman adding one
each. Guenther had the home
run in the seventh for 'he losers.
Coach Cliff Cronkite came
up with an ace -in -the -hole
for the locals when he started

Howard Datars of Dashwood
was appointed chairman of
the local committee for the
1978 Plowing Match to be held
in Huron County at the Huron
Plowmen's Association meeting
on June 24.
A committee was formed to
look for a site to hold the
International Match scheduled
for Huron in 1975. On the
committee is Howard Datars,
Gordon McGavin, John Clark,
James Armstrong, Don Pullen
and Russell Bolton. Mr. Datars
was named to head the local
committee that will be respon-
sible for completing local
arrangements for the big
International event.
This year, the I.3uron match
will be held on County Warden
Bill Elston's farm, Lot 8, Con.
2, Morris Township on Saturday,
September 14. Coaching day
will be Friday, September 13.
It was decided to investigate .
the possibility of holding a
llonie Plowing competition this
year. Contestants would be able
to plow a field at home and
have it judged. Prizes would be
awarded.
Ernie Talbot, R.R.3, Kippen
and Robert McCarney, R.R.3,
Seaforth were appointed to the
Farm and Urban Committee
to investigate the impact of a
nuclear plant in I luron County.
The association will sponsor
a 4-H plow club with John
Clark, R.R.5, Goderich, W.J.
Leeming and Sam Bradshaw as
club leaders.

the 1972 Perth match attended
the meeting to answer any
questions about the organizat-
ion of an international match,

Another strong defensive play
was pulled off by left fielder
Paul Charrette in the last of the
ninth, when he snagged a line
drive that appeared to be head-
ing for a double. He rifled the
ball into first base and almost
caught the runner who had
reached first with a single.

Jeff and Jill , Loveland, Col-
orado and Mr. and Mrs. Paul
Hovey, Vancouver, British
Columbia arrived Thursday to
spend the next two weeks with
their parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Fred LeBeau.
Mrs. Fletcher McLaughlin,
Meagan, Alfie and Courtney,
Toronto are visiting the next
two weeks with Mr. and Mrs.
A.F. McLaughlin and with Mr.
and Mrs. Fred LeBeau.
Mr. and Ivirs. Bob Cluff, Rob
and Tara, London are at their
village cottage.
Mrs. Margaret Furter, London,
visited Wednesday with Mrs.
G.L. Knight.
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Scotch-
mer,Robert, Lori and Carolyn,
of Chatham, spent the weekend
at the home of his mother, Mrs.
L.W. Scotchmer.
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Bedard,
Brantford and Mr. and Mrs. Don
Corriveau, Sheila and Bryan
of Waterloo were weekend
guests of Mr. and Mrs. John
Wild and family at R.R.3,
Bayfield.
Baby Robbie Irwin stayed with
his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.
E. W . Erickson and family from
Friday until Tuesday while his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rob
Irwin were in Sudbury as the
guests of Mr. and Mrs, Dave
Watson.
