Following the supper Patric-
ia Bender gave a toast to the
mothers, replied to by Mrs.

Weigand, read a poem, "Moth-
er and Daughter Love, " follow-
ed by a prayer by Mrs. Lloyd

BRIDAL SHOWER
Relatives, neighbors and
friends of Bonnie Iviason, bride -
elect of May gathered in the
United Church basement Thurs-
day, May 16, for a miscellan-
eous shower in her honor.
International Scene
goers and black jockeys have
been replaced by Spanish-Amer-
icans. However, the band still
plays the traditional "My Old
Kentucky biome."
You might be interested in
some of the logistics of the
race. My secret agent tells me
that this year there were 100, 00(
cups of coffee sold, 10 1/2
miles of hot dogs and 200 tons
of ice to cool a flood of mint
juleps.
As you probably know, the
Kentucky Derby, if the most
prestigeous, is not the only
race. in a recent Gallop Poll,
1 per cent of the population said
that horse racing was their fav-
orite sport to watch compared
with 360,*0 for football. Never-
theless 47, 000, 000 people
actually went to race courses
last year compared to 43, 000,
000 who turned out to watch
football. The fact that you can
bet on horses may have some-
thing to CIO with that.
