Varna
The Varna United Church
Women met in the basement
of the church with 25 members
and seven visitors present.
Our president, Mrs. Charles
Reid opened the meeting with
a prayer. Devotions were then
provided by Group III, Mrs,
Ivan McClymont opened the
worship with Psalm 100. This
was followed by a hymn.
"Happy the Home when God
is there" with Mrs. Bev 1.1111 at
the piano. Offering was taken
up by Mrs. Harold Dowson and
dedicated by Mrs. Bev Hill.
Worship service was closed by
"Beatitudes for Mothers" read
by Mrs. Gordon Johnston.
Business meeting was conduct-
ed by Mrs. Charles Reid. The
minutes of the last meeting
were read by Mrs. Harvey
Hayter, and the roll call taken.
The treasurer's report was read
by Mrs. Charles Reid. A thank -
you note from Mrs, Belle Reid
was read by Mrs. Ida Mc-
Clinchey and also a note from
the Clinton hospital Auxiliary.
It was noted that Varna UCW
is in charge of the hospital cart
in Clinton Hospital in June.
There were 36 calls made to
the sick and shut-in in the rnontl
of April .
It was also announced that
the church is holding a Pork
Barbecue on June 26.
Mrs. John Ostrom read the
address and Mrs. Mervin Johns-
ton presented a gift to Mrs.
Fred McClymont who left our
group in February and is now
residing in Clinton.
Group III presented a skit
"Tell 'em Doctor." This was
followed by a sale of many
different varieties of plants.
Lunch was served by Mrs.
Tom Consitt, Mr's, Ralph Steph-
enson and Mrs. Charles Reid.

council approved a grant of
$25 to the Huron Historical
Society, and took out a mem-
bership in the Huron County
Municipal Officers Association.
The membership fee of $15 was
ordered paid.
An application for a tile
drainage loan inthe amount
of $4, 000 was approved at the
same meeting. Accounts were
paid as follows general, $31,
736; roads, $13,763.
Details released
on land freeze
Details of the freeze put on
commercial development in
rural areas of Ontario recently
by Ontario Housing Minister
Sidney Handelman were rel-
eased this week to the munic-
ipalities involved. The town-
ships of Stephen, Hay and
Usborne in this area are includ-
ed in the freeze.
The interpretation of the
act spells out that "commercial

There is to be a Roller Skate-a-
thon at the Grand Bend Rink on
Sunday, May 12. The skate will be
for ten hours, from 12 noon to 10
p.m. All proceeds are for the
mentally handicapped.
After the money is counted
some will be donated to Arc
Industries, Dashwood while the
rest will go to South Huron and
Forest YACMR's. Skates are
available for rent for 50c and the
booth will be open on the day of
the skate.
