Zurich Citizens News, 1974-05-09, Page 2PAGE 2 ZURICH CITIZENS NEWS THURSDAY, MAY 9, 1974 Hensall tax rate up one mill (by Rena Caldwell) When Hensall council met on Monday, May 6, a by-law to set the mill rate for 1974 was passed, Residential, public school rate is 79 mills; resid- ential separate school, $84.50 commercial public, $91.40; commercial separate, $97.40. Residential rate is up one mill over 1973. The total assessment was $1, 566, 610. and tax arrears were approximately $3, 000. Building permits were given to Doug Manns, for a swimm- ing pool; Peter Toonstra, a garage; Leonard Noakes, a sun room; Harry Moir, a carport; Hensall BRIDAL SHOWER Neighbours and friends of -• Joyce Bezanson (nee Munn) honoured her on her recent marriage with a miscellaneous shower at the Chiselhurst Church recently. Mrs. Russell Brock presided for a short program consisting of musical numbers by Marilyn Brintnell, readings by Mrs. Harold Parker and several contests. Mrs. Jack Brintnell read the present- ation address and Shirley and Jean Cole presented the gifts. The bride expressed her thanks and appreciation and everyone joined in sing "For she is a Jolly Good Fellow," Lunch was served and a social time enjoy- ed by all. It was thought that if restructuring would be as expensive and ineffective as County Boards of Education, it would be well to have no part of it. Mr. Neilands reported on waste management. It has been suggested to him that garbage disposal should be paid for on Obituary ALLAN SOLDAN Allan Soldan, of London, passed away at Westminster Hospital, London, on Wednes- day, May 1, in his 67th year. Surviving are three brothers, William, Hensall, John, R. R.1, Zurich and Roy, of Centralia, and two sisters, Mrs, Elsie Case, Hensall, and Mrs. Bertha Mas- on, of London. There are also a number of nieces and nephews The body rested at the T. Harry Hoffman Funeral Horne, Dashwood, when the funeral service took place on Friday, May 3, at 2 p.m. with inter- ment in Exeter Cemetery. The residents enjoyed an hour of organ melodies on Thursday afternoon with Mr. Ed Stiles at the organ and vocal solos by Mrs. Rogers, Miss Campbell of Goderich, arranged a program of slides and music for "Family Night." The pictures and commentary by Miss Campbell were very interesting and had been taken while on tour of Australia, New Zealand and the Islands.
