The local board of health
is advising all the residents
of this area to be vaccinated
against the spread of smallpox.
Mr. Oscar Klapp, of the 14th
conession, Hay, sold a prize
heifer, "Lavender Martha 2, "
for the sum of $67.50, at the
recent consignment sale held
in Wingham.
Mr. William Zettel, of El-
bow, Sask. is at present visit-
ing with his brother and other
relatives in this area. It is at
least 20 years ago that Mr.
Zettel left this area for the
west, and this is the first time
he has returned for a visit.
Mr. T.L. Wurm has made
arrangements to re -open a store
for business in the section of
the Mellott hardware store whicl:
has recently been used for displ-
aying furniture. This means
that within another week Mr.
Wurm will again have a good
stock of groceries available
for his customers.
Cook. Bros, car dealers in
Hensall, have contracted with
the Durant motor car company,
to act as their sole representat-
ives for this area.
The interior of the Method-
ist Church in Brussels was
completely destoryed by fire,
with the damage amounting
to about $10, 000.

Mr. Campbell McKinley, of
Stanley Township, is having
his buildings wired for hydro
service.
A change has been made in
the ownership of Thiel's Transp-
ort business in Zurich, with
brothers Charles and Earl hav-
ing purchased the business from
their father.
The farm show sponsored by
V.L. Becker, of Dashwood,
attracted about 800 district
farmers to the Lutheran Church
shed, despite the bitter cold
March wind.
Many district farmers have
started tapping their sugar
bushes, but to date the weather
has not been too favourable for
a good run.
Fire last Monday completely
destroyed the Arkona Knitting
Mills, a factory which was
employing about 40 or 50
people.

System still shows a profit of
$664.40 for the past year's op-
eration.

Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Thiel
have moved into the new home
which they have just recently
completed, north of Mrs. Far-
well, in Zurich.
Mr. Ferd Haberer, of Zurich,
met with a very painful acci-
dent one day last week, when
in some way his thumb and
fingers got mixed up with an
electric power saw he was op-
erating.
Mr. Leeland Willert has had
a modern and up-to-date soda
fountain installed at his Snack
Shoppe in Zurich
A delegation from the Zurich
Lions Club, consisting of
Charles Thiel, George Deichert,
Earl Yungblut, William Siebert
and Jacob Haberer, met with
officials in Toronto regarding
a grant for a new Arena which
is under construction in the
village of Zurich. They were
informed they could receive a
grant of 25 per cent , up to an
expenditure of $40, 000.
Mr. and Mrs. Russell Broder-
ick and family have returned
to their home north of I-lensall
after spending the bigger part
of the winter in Arizona.
Mr. Eric Mcllroy, of Grand
Bend, is busy at the present
time getting his four race horses
ready for the summer season

The Zurich III4-H club met
on Monday night, March4, at
Mrs. Don Oke's home for their
second meeting. A new memb=
er Donna Miller joined our
club. We discussed how we
express ourselves and the care
of our body and clothing.
Our leader, Mrs. Oke made
up milk baths for us which
consist of oatmeal,
powdered skim milk, laundry
starch, wrapped in muslin.
It is swished in warm bath
water, and then soak in it for
twenty minutes. We also gave
each other manicures. We
closed our meeting with some
refreshments.

secretary -treasurer of the Zur-
ich Agricultural Society enjoy-
ed a sumptuous banquet last
Wednesday night at the home
of their president, Mr. and
Mrs. Fred Haberer.

The Township of Hay Mun-
icipal Telephone System year -
end statement for 1963 is comp-
lete and reveals a profit of
$9, 375.92. All revenues inc-
reased sharply due to increased
rates and toll business, mainly
because of dial conversion at
Grand Bend exchange.
Charlene Bedard of St.
Boniface School, Zurich was
declared winner of a public
speaking contest held at Mt.
Carmel Tuesday evening,
The regular dinner meeting
of the Hensall Kinsmen Club
was held Thursday at the Kosy
Corner Restaurant. The group
learned with regret that their
president, Ross )inks, is trans-
ferring to the East London Club.
Ross has been a good Kinsman
and a great president, and he
will be missed by the Hensall
Kinsmen Club.

Ontario Hydro Convention at
the Royal York Hotel, Toronto,
Last week.
At the special meeting on
Monday, the Hensall council
passed a motion granting Cook
Bros. permission to build the
necessary conveyor across the
street, after an agreement has
been signed with the village
holding Cook Bros. responsible
for any liability caused by the
conveyor.
