Ever since Mr. Couper arrived in Hensall in 196 8 to assume the role of general manager of the growing enterprise, he has thought of a new building to house all operations under one roof. Also high in priority for the genial general manager was the hope of gathering all operations of the organization as close together as possible. At one time the petroleum operation as well as the fertilizer sheds were located in the south end of the village of Hensall, far removed from the rest of the operation. "I knew this would never be successful, " Mr. Couper said. "We were going to have to bring all our operat- ions as close to each other as possible, so a close eye could be kept on all departments by those in supervisory positions." I was greatly encouraged by the energetic group of directors who felt the same way as I did, " he went on to say. "In a matter of a few years, with plenty of cooperation from all concerned we are seeing this objective ful- filled." When Mr. Couper arrived in Hensall in the fall of 1968, the annual volume of business being done by the Co -Op was just over one million dollars, and now it has grown to almost six million dollars during the year 1973. Prior to coming to Hensall to manage the growing organiz- ation, Mr. Couper was the gen- eral manager of the Mitchell District Co -Operative for five years. Before that he managed a feed mill operation in the same town.
