50 Years Ago
Mr. William Howard, of
near Drysdale, has disposed of
his fine farm to his neighbour,
Mr. Ed Denomy.
A man at London was fined
$50 for failing to put revenue
stamps on receipts of $10 and
over. This should serve as a
warning to all.
Rev. P. Graupner, who has
been pastor of the Lutheran
Church in Dashwood for the
past ten years, has resigned his
position effective shortly.
The fishermen at the lake
have been busy setting their
nets during the past week, and
although the catches have been
light to date the sample is very
good.
Mr. Samuel Deitz, who has
recently purchased the vacant
lot opposite the Commercial
Hotel in Zurich, is planning to
erect a new commercial build-
ing on the property. It is prob-
able a new post office is includ-
ed in the plans.
Arthur Coxworth is leaving
Hensall shortly for the west,
where he is planning to look
after his land interests. •
A meeting of the Hensall
Progressive Farmers organizat-
ion was held on Monday in the
Commercial Hotel. Many inter-
esting items were dealt with.
35 Years Ago
Mr. George Walker is plann-
ing to hold a community auct-
ion sale at the shed in Hensall
every week. He will also re-
rnain in the poultry business,
as well.
Mrs. Peter Manson is having
improvements made to the int-
erior of her home on Main Stree
Hensall.

ed list.
Word was received here of
the sudden passing of Peter
Ravelle, of Grand Bend and
formerly of Zurich, who died
suddenly in St. Joseph's Hospit-
al, London.
The Imperial Oil station at
the west part of Zurich, has
re -opened, under the manage-
ment of Ivir. Harry Rose.
The fishermen at Goderich
have just completed the largest
ice harvest in history, and feel
quite confident there will be
no shortage of ice during the
coming summer or fall.
25 Years Ago
In an effort to curtail the
hunting of non-resident in this
area, the Zurich Gun Club have
had the councils of Hay, Stanley
and Stephen set up laws to
charge a fee of 50 cents for
residents and $4.00 for non-
residents licences.
Mr. and Mrs. Ward Fritz left
Zurich on Monday for Ottawa,
where they intend spending the
next couple of weeks with Dr.
and Mrs. W.D. Bryce.
There was a large attendance
at the annual meeting of the
Hay Telephone System last
Monday, when the subscribers
were informed that they would
have to pay higher rates if they
wished to have their system surv-
ive.
Thirty rabbits and two foxes
were bagged by a party of 19
hunters from Windsor on Satur-
day. The party was guided on
their expedition by Milton Rus-
sell.

Deputy -district Governor of
Lions, Dr. Peter Bissonette, of
Ripley, paid his official visit
to the Zurich Club on Monday
night. He was introduced by

Serious consideration is being
given to the possibility of
building a two -room addition
to the Hensall Public School, to
accommodate 55 pupils from
three school sections in Tucker-
smith Township, which are sit-
uated close to Hensall.
A large group of ladies gath-
ered -at the Dashwood UEB
Church from Grand Bend United,
Church of God, and Anglican,
along with the EUB ladies, on
Friday, February 14, for the
World's Day of Prayer service.
Mrs. J. M. Tieman was chair -
lady and Mrs. George Link,
Mrs. Wattam, Mrs. Annie
Sharitt and Mrs, Rufus Turnbull
took part.
Mr. and Mrs. Orville Wit-
mer, of Zurich, have purchased
a motel and restaurant in the
Listowel vicinity. The business
they have bought is known as
the Elm Park Motel, and is sit-
uated on highway 23, north of
Listowel.
Mr. and Mrs. John Anderson
returned Friday after spending
three weeks vacationing in
Florida.
The Zurich Lions Midgets
romped to an easy 12-2 win
over Drayton in the first game
of a best -of -three series for the
WOAA Midget D. Title. Ken
Westlake and Bill Hoffman were
the big guns in the Zurich vict-
ory.

The Canadian Industries
meeting of Kippen East Women's
Institute will be held at the
home of Mrs. James Drummond
on February 20 at 2 p. m. The
roll call will be "name a favour-
ite use of cheese. " Mrs. H.
Caldwell will give the motto
and will be in charge of lunch.
Mr. Roger Martin will be the
guest speaker and Mrs. J.
Chalmers will conduct a cont-
est.

dyk are vacationing in the Bah-
amas.

a patient in St. Josephs' Hospit-
al London has returned home.
Mrs. Elzar Mousseau who was
a patient in Victoria Hospital,
London has returned to Seaforth
Hospital.
