INTERESTING HAPPENINGS IN ONTARIO'S PRETTIEST
The regular meeting of Bay-
field Senior Citizens was held
in the Municipal Building on
Friday evening, February 1.
The meeting was opened by
the past president, Clair Mern-
er, who presented our new pres-
ident, George Brown. The Nat-
ional Anthem was sung and the
Lord's Prayer repeated in unison,
The roll call was answered by
29 members.
The new secretary, Mrs. Jean
Bell read the minutes of the
December meeting which were
approved. No correspondence
had been received. The treasur-
er, Mrs. Vina Parker, gave her
report which was also adopted.
It was moved by Harry Baker
and seconded by Lloyd Makins
that all outstanding bills be
paid.
A get -well card signed by all
the members is to be sent to
Mrs. Carrie Heard, our flower
and card secretary who is out of
hospital and presently with her
son and daughter-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs. Lloyd Heard in Varna.
The president asked for sugg-
estions for bus trips be brought
to the next meeting for discus-
sion.
Happy birthday wishes were
sung to Mrs. Fern Baker,
Mrs. Pearl Westlake and Mrs.
Clara Johnston, who celebrate
birthdays in February.
After some discussion and with
approval of Gordon Graham,
clerk of the village; it was
decided to change our night of
meeting from the first Friday
of each month to the last Thurs-
day, therefore the next meeting
of the Senior Citizens will be on
Thursday evening, February 28
in the Municipal Building at 7.

The meeting adjourned and
cards were played, the winners
being Mrs. Freda Scotchmer,
Mrs. Andy McEarland, Ken
Lynn and Percy Johnston. Mrs.
Fern Baker won the lone hand
prize. The usual lovely lunch
was enjoyed following the card
game.
The Ladies Auxiliary sponsor-
ed a skating party for the Brown-
ies and Cubs Wednesday even-
ing at the Community Centre.
Twenty-five Brownies and 20
Cubs enjoyed an hour's skating.
Cub leader Allan Yates assisted
by Larry Schilbe, Rob Irwin
and Rick Penhale, cub helpers,
supervised games and relays.
The Brownie Leaders seemed to
have misplaced their skates.
Following skating the brownies
treated the cubs to cookies
theyhad made and chocolate
milk donated by the L.A. The
girls were assisted by Brownie
mothers Mrs. Barbara Telford,
Mrs. Marion DeRuyter and Mrs,
Marilyn Haw.
David Hill on behalf of the
Cubs thanked the Brownies and
led in three cheers for the Brown-
ie Pack.
Mrs. L.B. Smith returned
home on Friday accompanied
by her son and family; Mr. and
Mrs. Glen Smith and Ruth and
Cara Lynn Candy of Paris, with
whom she had been the guest
for the past week. The week
prior had been spent with her
daughter and family, Mr. and
Mrs. Ed Rowse, Jim, Vicki,
Cathy, Jill and Dale in London;
who took her to Paris the prev-
ious Sunday where they enjoy-
ed dinner with the Smith fam-
ily.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Parker,
Pam, Jack and David, Dorch-
ester, were with his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. 13111 Parker for
the weekend,
Mr. and Mrs. A.F. Scotch -
mer were the guests of their
son Michael in Guelph from
Thursday to Sunday; also with
them for the weekend were
their son and family, Mr. and
Mrs. Steve Scotchmer, of
St. Catherines; the occasion
being the 35th wedding anniv-
ersary of their p.arents. Friday
evening they were dinner guests
of Mr. George Hardy.
Mrs. Tom Penhale spent the
weekend with Mrs. Walter Scott
in St. Thomas.

Ruth Fehrmann, Toronto,
were with his grandmother, Mrs.
G,L. I<nigh for the weekend.
Mr. Gerald Sturgeon, Camb-
ridge (Preston) spent Wednesday
with his mother, Mrs, Maude
Sturgeon.
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Scot-
chmer, Robert, Lori and Carolyr
Chatham, visited with his moth-
er Mrs. L.W. Scotchmer for
the weekend.
Mi. and Mrs. Allan Yates,
Mr. and Mrs. John Siertsema,
Mr. and Mrs. Terry Bullen, Mr.
and Mrs. John Campbell, and
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Penhale
enjoyed a tour of the Ford Mot-
or Plant at Talbotville on Frid-
ay evening. They were taken on
the tour by Allan Yates an
employee of the plant.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Desjardine
and Paula spent the weekend
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
John Wild and family, R,R.3,
Bayfield. Mrs. Wild accompan-
ied them home to Goderich for
a couple of days.
Monday afternoon, January
28, Mr. Harry Bker of the vill-
age, cultivated his garden.
Whether this is a record or not,
it is most assuredly and early
for his spring gardening.
Sincere sympathy is extended
to the family of the late Mr.
Norman Rivers. who passed
away January 30.
GEORGE N. RIVERS
George Norman Rivers, of
Bayfield, passed away on Wed-
nesday, January 30 in Clinton
Public Hospital, following a
lengthy illness. He was 81 years
old.
He was married to the form-
er Olive Monteith who survives
him. The couple had resided
in Stratford and London before
retiring to Bayfield.
Mr. Rivers was associated
with Tool and Dye and held
mechanical supervisory posit-
ions in Detroit and Canadian
Factories, also in London and
Stratford, thirteen years as a
Maico Audiologist where he
received several awards for his
contributions for his service to
the hard of hearing.
He was a member of Trinity
Anglican Church, Bayfield.
Surviving him are four sons,
Wilson N., of Barrie; Joe S.
and Raymond K., both of Lond-
on and Robert W., of Stratford.
A son Clare E. predeceased him
Twenty-one grandchildren,
nine great-grandchildren and
one brother, W. Harry Rivers
also survive.
The funeral was held from
Trinity Anglican Church, Bay -

use of the hall has been increas-
ed to $15, while the Women's
Institute will have to pay $6
